there is always something that goes wrong with everyone using it. but it can't be perfect for everyone.

Oh I don't know, the kid has a point. I mean losing SatNav for thirty seconds could easily result in today's tech dependent/helpless navigator getting lost and driving off of a cliff to a fiery death, or watery grave.

Most of these are iOS limitations. Go back to Android.
Some are, many aren't.

1 - There's a blue bar at the top of the screen to easily return to navigation. This isn't illegal in the U.K. as long as the phone is in a cradle and not in your hand. I've just checked this information online now to be sure and I am definitely correct.

2,3 and 4 - All of these are software glitches that I myself have never encountered, so if you really are experiencing all three of these you are very unlucky and I would suggest a fresh install of iOS or ask Apple to swap for a new phone.

5 - Calculator sounds work in the same was the keyboard clicks which are also not controlled/silenced by the volume buttons, I'll admit it's a very mild annoyance that they can't be disabled like the keyboard clicks can. My suggestions would be to put the phone on silent or to use a third party calculator app (there's an abundance on the App Store). Hardly seems a reason to switch phones.

6 - A bit confused by what you expect for this? Lock screen can be configured to show all new messages and emails, as can the easily accessible notification centre. The red badge app icons also make it pretty hard to not realise you have a new message.

7 - Headphone jack has been discussed to death, some care about it, others don't. Surely you knew about it before you bought the phone though?

I agree with others, it does feel like you are looking for reasons to be annoyed and to change to android.
This basically answers it all fairly well.

One thing about calculator sounds, up until iOS 10 those were controlled by the Keyboard Sounds setting as well, but for some reason in iOS 10 that hasn't been the case so far--hopefully it's just some bug that will get fixed by Apple sooner rather than later (it also similarly applies to selection "wheels" like those when setting timer/alarm or selecting from a list of selections in some drop-down menu on a form somewhere).

A user posts a pretty detailed list of issues looking for some help. Nothing in their post suggests a troll and yet you get all these overly defensive posts.

That other newbie was right "this place is like a f***ing cesspool of fanboys."
Or perhaps where some uses like to overgeneralize things and somehow apply something to basically everyone?

Most of those are incorrect or very trivial problems which I think you just need to get over to be honest.

You can open control center from the bottom if the keyboard is open.

Settings > Sounds > Calendar alerts - none

Can't be be bothered to answer the other ones, quick Google will find you answers though.

I have never been able to open the control center with the keyboard open. How do you do this?

It's indeed possible to swipe up Control Center when the keyboard is open. You just need to do it more slowly because otherwise it thinks you're using the keyboard. Without the keyboard you can do it slow or fast.

This is by design so the Control Center doesn't accidentally trigger when using the keyboard.
Ahh good to know. I just recently discovered it was possible to open CC when the keyboard was there but the way I did it was to swipe up super high. You can still swipe fast if you go well above the keyboard. Nice to know there is another option.

Exactly the same way as normal, swipe up from the bottom.
Eh, not exactly the same as normal. You either have to do it slowly or swipe up really high. When the keyboard isn't on the screen, you can swipe up from the bottom however you feel like.

I never tried the slow swipe up. Thanks for that tip! I usually just swiped back down to hide the keyboard then went for control center.

For me its exactly the same as normal :D

Perhaps it's exactly the same as normal for you because you normally swipe up slowly, or normally swipe up well above the keyboard, regardless of whether the keyboard is present.

Do it fast and it doesn't really work (unless you reach up well above the keyboard).

I've been Android for several years, but have watched as iPhone has evolved device more suitable for me, so thought I'd give it a go.

Largely, I love the phone and a lot of stuff about it. But there are several niggles which have made pine after Android.

- Phone call cancels navigation. When driving using the phone as navigation, if someone calls, the whole screen is taken-up with the phone app. As it's illegal to touch a mobile phone whilst driving in the UK, technically I'm unable to get my satnav back until I hang-up.

- iMessage. Seems like a great idea, but my girlfriend (who is iPhone) has gone back to Whatsapping me because messages were disappearing.

- Camera often doesn't open. I just get a black screen and need to flick to video and back to photo for it to work.

- Can't swipe from bottom if keyboard is open.

- Can't turn off Calculator sounds

- Zero idea of missed messages/email unless you go looking for them. Driving is a prime example - I now have to check when I finish a journey to see if I've missed anything. And fingerprint unlocks the phone so quickly, it's already unlocked before it's out of my pocket, so I don't see notifications on the lock screen.

- Lack of headphone jack has become a bit annoying as twice I've forgotten the adapter.

It is Pretty clear that you like Driving and using your Mobile device at the same time. I must emphasize how dangerous that is. And while you may not consider your life, consider the life of a young child on the way to school you can run over or worse.

Why not enable Do not disturb before going on a drive? This is why I have a dedicated iPad mini for GPS. I don't want notifications and other nonsense blocking my view of the GPS randomly.

- iMessage. Seems like a great idea, but my girlfriend (who is iPhone) has gone back to Whatsapping me because messages were disappearing.

I don't have this problem. Disappearing messages is a very odd problem. Delayed messages yes. This seems very unusual and interesting.

I don't have this problem. Do others have this problem? I wonder if it's related to iOS 10. How do you open the camera? Swiping left from the home screen or opening the app manually?

- Can't swipe from bottom if keyboard is open.

This is a genuine annoyance. You have to place your finger at the bottom middle without touching the screen, hold it for about half a second, then slowly swipe up.

- Can't turn off Calculator sounds

Download a new calculator app. Or better yet, don't use the calculator at all.

A surprising number of people don't know this, but Spotlight does calculations wonderfully. On the home screen, swipe down to make spotlight appear, or swipe right at the first page of app icons. Then just type out an equation. You can even type things like "16mi" or "75F" and see Apple convert, without an internet connection, the units between imperial and metric. I've even used it to do things like "1USD to SGD" - Spotlight is absurdly powerful with quick calculations.

I don't understand this. Swipe down from the top to see notifications. Raise to wake to see notifications without pressing the home button. iOS 10 specifically has Raise to wake for this purpose. In fact come to think of it, if you don't press down the home button, how are you unlocking your phone? Again, iOS 10 is specifically designed to not hide the notifications as much as possible.

- Lack of headphone jack has become a bit annoying as twice I've forgotten the adapter.

Yeah ok, this is a fair point. Apple wants to push the future by making everyone use wireless stuff instead - I have mixed feelings as to whether this is the right time to do it or not.

Swiping up with the keyboard open, I have found, requires you to keep your finger on the screen as you're swiping. Almost everywhere else I can just flick up from the bottom. Keeping my finger in it I can easily get it to work every time.

As far as the navigation issues, if this is truly a problem I suppose it's unavoidable. It's illegal here to touch your phone too but I just do it. No idea how strict the police are there but I'd think you'd have to be incredibly unlucky to get busted for the quarter second it takes to do this. Still, you make a fair point. You'll have to break the law for this to function as you want it.

Calculator sounds you either love with or turn the phone on vibrate. I chose the latter because I am more often in a situation where I need thenohone to be silent then not. I also now have an Apple Watch so I don't miss notifications.

As far as checking notifications, I recommend pulling it from your pocket differently. If you're only doing it to check notifications, raise to wake will activate. Re learn how to not immediately go for that button.

The black camera is an issue I've actually had but was fixed in subsequent updates (I have a 6s plus). I suppose it has reared its ugly head again in your case. Not much to say here other than maybe try rebooting and wait for another version update.

Best of luck. I use android alongside iOS and I like both. To be honest I feel iOS has become a lot like android over the years. Particularly with this latest update.

In all my years on this site, this is the first time I've ever heard someone complain about the calculator sound that could potentially be a factor to returning the device.

First world problem y'all.

Get a Note 7 it will keep you warm all winter long.

Yeah perfect for starting a camp fire too!

The phone/navigation thing is a problem for me too. There was a thread about it awhile back -- I was hoping iOS 10 would (finally) add the "back" arrow into the phone UI (so you can easily go back to Waze after taking a call); but for some reason they did not... even though that arrow now coexists with the signal strength indicator (in apps where the arrow does appear). It would be really nice to return to the navigation screen with a single tap (which takes barely any attention), rather than having to double-tap etc.

Oh, and to everyone saying "Tap the blue bar..." -- the blue bar doesn't appear for Waze, sadly. Maybe Waze could enable that feature (...just like they could probably enable "pause spoken audio," if they wanted to, rather than merely reduce the volume of your audio so you miss chunks of your podcast during navigation! Wuzzup, Waze?!)

Don't know about it being a reason to return a device, but with iOS 10 it's basically the first time (or at least in quite a while) that the calculator makes sounds for those that have keyboard sounds disabled.

What about downloading a 3rd party calculator from the app store?

Certainly a workaround for someone that would be fine with that. Doesn't solve the issue with the default Calculator app (which is also easily and quickly accessible from the Control Center pretty much anywhere) suddenly not following the Keyboard Sounds settings that have applied to it all these years prior.

This is why I use both iOS and Android. They both complement each other.Android wipes the floor with iOS in a few areas and vice versa.Best of both the worlds is to get both
