ANY credibility you had, and I mean ANY is gone. Sorry, but you fail worse than anyone else here has ever failed. Why?

Spec Comparison:
  • 1GB of DDR2 RAM for the HP, 4GB DDR3 RAM for the Apple
  • Intel Celeron 533FSB vs. Intel Core2Duo 1066FSB
  • 160GB HD vs Apple 250GB HD
  • GMA X3100 vs Nvidia 9400M
  • 1280x800 vs 1440x900 Display
  • 802.11g vs 802.11n
  • 3.2cm thick vs 2.41cm thick
Sorry, but you completely, and utterly fail in making a fair comparison.

I posted that in response to your earlier comment. You tried to make it seem like all 15" laptops cost the same as Apple's when quite clearly they do not.

Go back and read my post, I have the updated specs for my two laptops I was comparing.

Its entirely fair, I am using the most full featured version of Leopard and Snow Leopard, so I will in turn use the most full featured version of Vista and 7.

But nobody needs those features! They're thrown in as extras by Microsoft and then disabled to give the pretense of value!:D

I could live off Vista basic. :p

Sorry, but you completely, and utterly fail in making a fair comparison. I said 15" because I was implying the Dell wasnt some 19" monstrosity.

Want the specs for the Dell? Specs: 1.6GHz Centrino Duo, 80GB HD, 256MB GeForce Go7XXX, 1GB RAM, 15″ Screen @ 1280×800, DVD Burner. $1800

Macbook Pro: 2.4GHz Core2Duo, 200GB HD, 256MB 8600, 2GB RAM, 15" LCD @ 1440x900, DVD Burner. $1800

I call Apple, and I get US based support every time. Perfect english. Dell is straight India. Have fun with that.

He doesn't fail, he only pulled up that computer because it is 15", like the MBP. At the end of the day, Windows and Snow Leopard are both great in their own ways. You don't have to denounce anything that Microsoft releases.

And my experience of Dell support was great, the charger broke and then sent another one out straight away without me even having to send the broken one in for inspection. Thankfully I haven't had to use Apple support yet, but I imagine it'll be just as good.

(not trying to flame you here, I'm just trying to inject some reason into this thread)

I get what you saying completely. Heres the way I see it 100% of the time; When Windows goes down or your computer needs a part its pulling teeth dealing with their CS, trying to get parts, or troubleshooting for an hour and a half...with Apple its a simple phone call and its either fixed or they will make it right without any trouble.

I got my mac two years ago and really really wanted to like it. its interface, features like expose, dashboard, etc are excellent and implemented much better than on windows.

but there are so many little problems with the software that really detract from the experience. it might not be slower but it certainly FEELS slower than windows - the interface is never as snappy as xp. little problems pop up now and then - certain buttons dont work for a while randomly, using random features suddenly crash the software, and every browser on the mac sucks compared to firefox on xp. firefox is sluggish, opera crashes, safari crashes all the time (4.0.2). mail deletes messages randomly every now and then. these occur about 20% of the time and are a lot more annoying than they seem.

i think using a windows is like driving on a slightly bumpy road, but using a mac is driving on a newly paved, really smooth road with random speed bumps every half mile or so. its better 80% of the time, but that 20% of the time just ruins the experience.

i have a macbook core 2 duo, 2 gb ram, leopard 10.5.7. im gonna install snow leopard to see how it goes, but unless that makes everything much better im going back to windows

Absolutely agree. This persists into Vista too - it just 'feels' so much faster than OS X.

On identically specced machines the Classic Mac OS felt far, far faster than Windows. The reason for that, however, was that clicking the mouse monopolised 100% of the CPU. Everything else (copying, opening, watching video, even printing) ground to a complete halt whilst the mouse button was depressed - a high price to pay.

Felt fast as lightning though, really miss it.

When has an OS ever run faster than a previous version on identical hardware?

This happened noticeably with 10.0 > 10.1 > 10.2 > 10.3. I understand it's happening with Vista > 7 and also with Leopard to Snow Leopard.

So, in answer to your question, loads of times.

Sorry I haven't replied

I'm the OP - I've been really busy at work lately and I made that most because I was really frustrated with my Mac that day and wanted to express it. It has been doing random shutdowns and its backlight is gone so I'm going to the apple store soon. meanwhile I've been using vista on my other computer and its been pretty decent so far.

I think the fact that I made a well-reasoned post (I even said why I love some parts of Mac and even made a comparison that a mac is a smooth road with speed bumps whereas a windows is a rougher road with less bumps) was met with skepticism and allegations of trolling shows how biased some of you guys are. I know Apple gets called out for being fanboys a lot and i used to be guilty of it myself but you guys are really the reason people hate Apple, not because the product is worse but because you guys are smug *******s who can't accept the fact that someone made a wellreasoned argument against your perfect machines

btw - I'm still using my mac after it gets fixed. bought snow leopard and hoping it fixes everything. so dont call me an anti-mac troll

Troll or not, let the guy get his Mac repaired and let him see if he still likes it. In any case, Macs should not be pushed away just because it's defective. Fix it and see if it gives you problems then.

rhett

yea im such a troll because i put a reasonable complaint and people call me troll so i call them smug. its people like you that give macs a bad name. you refuse to call anything macs do bad so no innovation happens because you get complacent- you guys are the reason that macs aren't getting better at a faster pace. i hope you guys stop basing your lives on a ****ing machine.

yea ill probably be called a troll or flame again for speaking the truth but ive gone through the windows forums and if anyone has a problem people are very reasonable about it they dont go on their mac high horse and diss the OP. what i care is that i got a mac, i think its decent but there are problems, and my next computer will be a pc. wowww thats so unbelievable because windows sssuuuccckk and macs arre amazing and steve jobs is a rainbow god. get freaking real
