There’s no new look... they look like last years phone... so how could they not like the “new” look?

My guess:

1. Increased supply. OLEDs are plentiful, and TSMC has come through with their 7 nm manufacturing.
2. Apple overestimated demand, and priced the Maxes too high, so people are hesitating.

Re: #2. I know for myself, it's the price of the Max and even higher price of the 256 GB model made me decide not to pre-order one. I am leaning heavily toward the XR 128 GB now.

No way of telling. Could be low sales, if so we will find out at the shareholders meeting or some financial report.

However, it could just be they were better prepared with more phones on hand. After all, they are launching in a lot more countries this time around which implies a greater inventory of phones on hand to ship.

I wonder too if it's because they didn't have to anticipate numbers on several different models (for the diff carriers)

They perfected supply chain from their production issue with the X and one modem supplier so mass produce enough with one model for the US and another for international which explains sim-free available at preorder and possible the X users didn’t upgrade this year or the high prices drove some away so who knows?

This year iphone is a bit messy, even the apple website looks a lot of things are not organized ,if anyone does not look when buying might flipped over

There was severe supply issues with the X. It was big news for weeks. This year we heard nothing about that.

Do the math.

And BTW, what's this about in store pickup on the 21st yet ships in weeks? I'm getting a little pissed about this (knowing nothing of course :D ).

You mean to tell me you don't know why? It's almost the same phone.

Not everybody is rich or have 1k to burn. The middle class and low income majority have either, already happily upgraded to the lowered priced 7/8, or are waiting for the Xr.

Xs/Xs Max may not be sold out, the other phones might be selling like crazy. Apple still wins.

New money vs old money..new money needs everyone to know they have money...old money looks at value. It’s not always IF one can afford it, it can also be why should I bother.

Nah. Around here, you have representatives of both in both groups.

I agree.

I think if I updated my phone ever 5 years or longer like I do with my laptops, I'd get a Max. Incidentally, the Max 256 GB in Canada is exactly the same price as what I paid for 12" MacBook.

However, since I usually upgrade my phone every 2-3 years, I'm not keen on spending as much on the phone, even though I get it partially covered as a business expense.

Isn't pretty obvious the reason is people are saying enough is enough, the new iPhones are not good value and even loyal fans are not upgrading, even the ones that can afford are saying no, and then you have people that just don't have that kind of money for a phone that really has nothing that a 4-5 hundred phone can't do, the Xs are aimed at the well off now, really it's a big middle finger up to the average person the helped apple become a trillion dollar company isn't it, With a good while now apple has been too greedy with there clever ways of trying get more money from the customer, no fast charger/dongle and pushing people to the 256gb storage, they come on stage with the "isn't that great, isn't that remarkable, this is breakthrough " but the rest of the year they are around a desk trying to figure out how to screw you for more.

My iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen was cheaper to buy than these phones.... just saying.....12.9 inch’s......

I think Apple was $100 over on all of these devices this year. Believe it or not, $100 makes a big difference!

Keep in mind the demographics of most of these tech folks that work at Apple/Microsoft/google. The homes in their area that cost 300k here cost 1.2-.15 million. They all make 150k+ and are used to the micro-economy in their area fleecing them of their technological riches. They are not in touch with most of the country nor the world.

In what way is the xs mediocre? overpriced i understand but mediocre?
Come on if you can’t see why it’s mediocre then the fanboy runs deep. A slight spec bump, new processor, and some some great marketing videos justify over a grand for the same product. Just look at the price of the Xr. A pretty phone at 720p?! People will always buy and justify it somehow but this year I won’t. You can,as is your right but don’t act like the Xs is revolutionary in any way.
