Other Why iphone this year not SOLDOUT Fast ????

IMO there just hasn’t been any big ‘new thing’ that gets the average Apple user to want to upgrade every year or two. For example, my 7+ can do everything that my new Xs Max will do besides the insignificant things like Animoji etc.

Apple restrained supply last year to make the anniversary launch "a big deal". Also Apple has much more supply this year (restrained or not), which is why they're able to offer sim-free at launch. Most of the carrier models sold out within 15-20 minutes of pre-order time.

The X was the beta test for this phone. 1.5 hour longer battery life, thinner bezels, faster faceID, 7nm, 6.5 inch size, significantly better camera. This is the phone the X should've been.

I think they did a great job and I'm glad I waited.

Decent guesses.... I guess. No one really know what they did or didnt do with regards to stock levels. Sim free at launch is probably due to having the same intel modem in all of the devices. But that is a guess as well.

Every phone is a beta test for the next. 🙂

Because Apple is selling:
1) same phone
2) same phone bit bigger
3) same phone but smaller and desirably cheaper but technically super overpriced

Why would there be much demand? If you have an X it's basically almost the same phone. Same thing happened with Samsung Galaxy S9 - sales were not huge since it's almost the same as S8

New iPhones really don't have any spectacular new features. Apple working on foldable iPhone most likely.
Supply seems to be ample that's why dates haven't really dropped that much.
Also price is an issue for some people

I’m in this boat. I make good money, but I’m not rich. I grew up dirt poor with nothing. The value of a dollar is important to me. I paid $799 for my 8 plus 64gb last year. The base 64gb x max is now $300 more. I don’t feel like I would get $300 more enjoyment from it. Knowing Apple, it will be available next year for $100 off. $999 for the right to last year’s tech, lol... I do think the phones next fall will be revolutionary, so there will probably be good deals on swappa and eBay. Just goes to show the iPhone isn’t for everyone, not by a long shot.

IPhone X was difficult to manufacture - both the components and assembly. They’ve had a year to figure out all the production kinks and since the XS is largely the same design, they’re able to make a lot more of them more quickly.
 
Overall phone sales are slowing so that could be contributing to it. A lot of people holding iPhones 1-3 years old and they're working fine.
I think that's why Apple feels people will pay more, because the majority of people are keeping them longer

Yeah but do you even have animoji on that thing??? What will your friends think when they send you one and you can't send one back. 😛

These things are a cycle.. Sales decline..raise price for revenue boosts.. sales decline further.. mass sell cheaper devices.

Prices will come back down as units stop moving and revenue takes a hit. It's simple economics.

That’s not how Apple operates. The $1099 X max will still be $1099 up until the 2019 phones come out. A lot of people who own an iPhone like the fact they never drop in price or go on sale. They can sell their phone and not lose their ass like you do with an android phone that isn’t a pixel.
 
The discussion at my work the day after the launch was how expensive it is and I wholeheartedly agree with that. I only know a few people with the X and they are locked into long term contracts. I think older iPhones and the XR will be the bigger sellers this year.

The birth of 36 month contracts this year is interesting and a way carriers can advertise phones as much cheaper. I think we’ll see less people upgrading every one or two years going forward. I certainly hope we get a lack of interest in premium models and force Apple to be less greedy but I doubt they’d take any notice.

This is what you’re faced with for example if you want the XS 64GB as an upgrade with my carrier:

A crap data package and more than $93 a month over 2 years with the option to extend it another year. No thanks.
 
If I was upgrading my X to Xs, I would have to currently pay $536 to upgrade through ATT. But yes, you can sell that phone or "Give Back" to Apple for $525 to offset that dip in your pocket.

Thankfully I upgraded my other line that has been vacant for 3 months. I just switch SIM chips and will make the 512 XsMax my main phone. Still going to Give Back and take the $525 gift card from Apple.

i'm pretty entrenched in the Apple ecosystem, i like their phones but after seeing all the deals for the 8 this past year there's no reason not to wait 4-8 months and get a deal for a XS max at some point after the hype has passed

The Xs max will maybe be $100 or $150 cheaper in 12 months. Hardly worth waiting a year to save $100. The 8 was the last reasonably priced phone. $799 for 64gb 8+ and $950 for the 256 if I recall. A 64gb max is $100 more than the 256 top of the line 8+ last year lol..
