That thread stating 8GB is referring to previous gen MBPs. Unless someone has tried 6gb or 8gb on the new models, you can't know for sure.

These Macbooks and MBPs aren't using the montevina chipset though.

From what I've read, it appears to be a limitation of the memory controller in the chipset. My understanding is that the chipset in these new models limits the ram to 4GB.

What is with all the questions of more than 8 gigabytes of ram with the new Macbook and the Macbook Pro? Does this mean the Snow Leopard will use more ram than Leopard, kinda like Xp to Vista?

why would apple take a step backwards!? that seems like a stupid move to me....but that may well be the case so i guess we have to put up with it.

apple is not microsoft, please dont think that because microsoft made a new os that is pathetic, resource hungry and slow that apple will. snow leopard is being completely re-written in a different language. this is so that it will perform faster and use LESS memory (unlike vista, which uses more because microsoft tried to pretty it up too much). snow leopard will be using the dual core/quad core power a lot more easily because of this re-write as well.
