  1. Better in your pocket as it's the right way up when you remove it
  2. Better in a car as the 3.5mm cable drops straight down from the dash or window
  3. Better for people using headphones with no mic built in so you can hold it with the bottom edge towards your mouth
It might even be a dual optical/analogue audio socket as seen in the Macs and ATVs :)

All of these things are completely backwards for me. Not sure how you see upside down as right side up.

I think it's better at the bottom. When I pocket my phone it always goes in top first, screen facing in - that way when i take it out of my pocket my thumb is already on the home button to turn it on. Putting the headphone jack at the bottom will let me always put it in my pocket this way, even when listening to music.

Yeah my reasons are the same as this

Lol, which is what happened between the original iPod line and the iPod touch in 2007.

Not a big deal.

(And yes, I own both an iPhone and an iPod touch.)

When you hold pick something up, you want to pick it up with your fingers near the top of the device and your thumb at the bottom. This minimizes movement required to reach a comfortable position.

When you put the current iPhone in your pocket, the bottom of the phone is at the bottom of your pants. When you reach in to remove your phone, your fingers are at the bottom near the home button and your thumb is near the top, therefore the phone is currently backwards.

I appear to have been beaten to this.

Form factor

I remember reading an article on the Nexus 7 and it stated that for a thin form factor Asus put the headphone jack near the connector. I would presume as the iPhone is rumored to be thinner than even the previous version this is a way to thin the profile.

I think back to the older gen iPod touches that are the same way. Apple has wavered on its own designs- no button shuffle anyone? Either way- take my money Apple!

If i can find the link with the Asus interview I'll post #

How about we hold off judgement until Apple actually announces the phone.

If that's the case, let's not mention "the phone" that the company hasn't technically announced, either. Maybe they're planning on never doing another iPhone. (heavy sarcasm)

I like the new format if that's what it ends up being, all cables coming from one end. I use Bluetooth almost all the time, too.
