Well I believe its simple supply and demand just like which has been stated thoughout this thread repeatedly. There is too much supply and not enough demand hence the overstock and 24hr shipments.

Or, hang on, I know this could be a shock to your system.

It could be that Apple doesn't produce 7,000 different machines with 9,000 options each. Therefore it's much easier to keep the supply lines properly filled without overextending themselves with excess inventory.

Another nice side effect of this is that they can test each configuration a heck of a lot more than Dell or Lenovo can test each of their 8 billion combinations.
