They're definitely not terrible. Not the best. Not worth the sugar, though.

I think that they are too chewy, sweet and unhealthy, generally speaking. However, you're entitled to your opinion on the matter and I respect yoyr right to have a differing one.

I respect your opinion also. I haven't tried them in a while, so I don't have a very good opinion here. In my experience, they are very sweet, which isn't necessarily good, and they're very unhealthy.

FS, glad that we could reach an agreement (^_^).

Have a great day!

Unlike most here, I’m for Cadbury’s over Galaxy. I think Thornton’s beats either, but the best mainstream UK chocolate I remember is from way back when you could get “Meadowland” Chocolate Brazils at Christmas. Haven’t seen those for many years, though.

I think the higher cocoa content is the main UK/US difference; especially Cadbury’s vs. Hershey.

I’ve been round two chocolate factories, a Hershey’s in Canada and Lindt in Switzerland; only the Lindt make me feel like buying the entire contents of the gift shop. The 85% Cocoa Lindt is like a triple espresso. Green & Black are running a close second recently though.

I also reckon thinner clocolate tends to taste better than thicker chunks, even of the same brand and recipe. Think Cadbury’s Animal Bars vs. a slab of Dairy Milk. Or those delectable little wafer-thin squares of pure Lindt...

...And this is coming from Australia where our chocolate is treated so it won't melt.

aussie chocolate melts. its melting right in my hands here. :( Cadbury.

You don't seem to have discovered the failsafe way of getting several bars of chocolate home from the supermarket without them melting (i.e. eat them in the car park) :D

OK, I feel I owe you nice people a reasonable reply, now. ;)

I don't "do" chocolates very often any more, but when a family occasion arises, and the "masses" cry for Uncle John's chocolates, I go here.

Not cheap, by any means, but way beyond anything else I can get around here.

I was on holiday in Finland fairly recently and I just couldn't get on with salmiakki. I still have loads of salmiakki vodka in my fridge that I just can't drink. Not for me.

I did however, become a little addicted to Fazer chocolates.

It's quite rare for someone who has never tasted salmiakki to suddenly acquire a taste for it. That said, I have a friend in Australia who just loves Finnish salmiakki-chocolate. It's not as sweet as regular chocolate.

I find a lot of American snacks are just not that nice. A few years ago I was tricked into buying US Coca Cola. Horrible stuff. I can't even remember the taste now, the only thing I remember was inspecting the bottle to make sure I wasn't fobbed off with a cheap imitation. They had some Hersheys and Reeces Pieces too. Unnice.

Oreos aren't bad. But the action there is in the cream layer.

Can't stand mainland Europe stuff either! Spanish, French and Polish produced chocolate is just bleh. It's very bitter stuff. I just end up snacking on imported Lion bars! Swiss and Belgium is very nice though.

Dairy Milk is my go-to bar. Simple chocolate for a simple person. Galaxy is smashing stuff but I prefer that as a treat, or Thorntons if I've been a very good boy.
