Why is Headphone Jack on Bottom of iPhone 5?

Will the 5 flip the display fully upside down in stuff like the music app or in a news app? If not, that would be a pain at the gym or something like someone said above where I might be watching a video.

Thanks for the info! I'd seen Jaybird earphones before, but didn't know that they had those "secure" earbuds. That's why I never considered them before, because the regular earbuds never stay in my ears. But now that I know they come with secure earbuds, I'll probably give them a try.
Nope, doesn't flip around upside down. I really wish it would, like on the iPad. In fact, it'd be nice if the home screen would also rotate sideways. Why they can't take that from the iPad and implement it on the iPhone is beyond me.
I like the concept of having the jack on the bottom but would also like the speaker grills to be the same size. Kinda annoying me !
One is not a speaker grill. I think the one on the headphone side is the mic probably but not sure.
Sorry I worded my post wrong. You are quite correct they are both not speaker grills.

I had to learn that the hard way. I drove all the way to an apple retail store and made an appointment to discuss my iPhone 4 left speaker not working. I was told that it wasn't a speaker but a mic and that is why I am not hearing sound from it.
I was like oohh okay, and that was the appointment, lasted about a minute. lol

I love them so far. They are very secure when running or doing any other cardio activity. The best part is they are sweat proof and Jaybird even warrants them for lifetime from sweat.

I've always thought this.
I want my iPhone home screen to sometimes be in landscape but I guess the screen is too small width wise to be able to.
Wow awesome.mthanks for the info. Glad they hold up against sweat.mi stopped buying expensive ear phones when the first couple pairs died on me after a few weeks of cardio sessions.
Depends on the iPod. The classic, mini, and shuffle have it on the top. The nano and touch have it on the bottom.
I respect your opinion, but I don't believe the upside down claim.Also, people usually put their phones upside down in their pockets, so it works that way too.

When you are using your phone, it is right side up. In order to put your phone in your pocket with the top pointing up, you'd need to flip the phone around before putting it in your pocket, versus using your phone, then putting your hand into your pocket and dropping the phone, which would make the phone upside down in your pocket.I respect your opinion, but I don't believe the upside down claim.
