I'm fairly nuts. I've been on Effexor for a few years now, but it's definitely helped my mood swings and depression. I always knew there was something wrong with my moods...come to find out I've prob been that way since I was 12 or 13. Damn alcoholic father. Now to work on my self-esteem.

Side effects: I was hoping I would have more energy, but I still enjoy a good nap most days. But damn don't skip a day...the dreams are FreaKY!@!!!! iGary I've found that when I get in that nap mood after lunch that if I get out and walk around the block I'll feel better and get more done in the afternoon.

I definitely do that sometimes, especially since I work from home. I se we're all Effexor folks here - I take it, too. And yeah, it's definitely helped me too. Just makes me tired sometimes.

Between my back problems and being semi-psychotic, my insurance company doesn't make a dime off of me. :p :D

I don't believe in drugs for things like the common cold. I only believe in vaccinations.

I'd been using Effexor for about 7 months and I was starting to feel as bad with it as I did at the worst without it, so all I was getting were the side effects like drowsiness.

I can truly say that, for about one week during the 5th week, I felt euphoria and it was downhill from there. I'm feeling very much myself again without the meds and have managed my panic mode pretty well with occasional doses of chocolate or fish.

The only good side effect was that my migraines were almost non-existant.

b)My libido is pooched :(

And thanks for the tip you gave at the end of the post, I'll definitely try it.
By the way, good luck in kicking depression in the a$$, it can be a real b!t#h.

For some reason I'm very glad that I don't recognize any of the med names you've all mentioned so far (though perhaps they have different names here, or maybe they just don't sell em).

Luckily, what meds I've taken haven't had much negative side effects, except for the last one, Imurel, which, in the beginning - while adjusting to them, forced to me have regular conversations with bottom of the toilet, plus some crazy hair loss (which, admittedly, is rather depressing when you're as relatively young as I am).

Never taken anything that mess with my brain. Generally stay away from all kinds of meds unless I *have* to take it (cold and headaches be damned). Does seem to have the fortune effect that whenever I have to take them, they work *really* well :p

The most frustrating combination of side effects from my old meds was:
Increased libido and decreased ability to climax.

It's not as much fun as you think it would be...

And the most frustrating problem with the new Meds is still insomnia. I was switched from the old to the new due to having 2-3 hours sleep a night. The new meds helped a little but not a lot so my Dr. doubled the dosage but there hasn't been much of a change.
I was awake today at 06:30 it's now 00:15 and I'm not even tired despite feeling exhausted, I know that sounds contradictory but I know if I try to sleep I'll just lie there awake.

I had serious leg surgery about two years ago.

I would kill for pain medication of any type..all they will give me is tylenol 3...

I've been in pain since the injury, everyday, every step..

I guess the question to ask is, "would you rather be sick , or in pain." It's a tough question.

Pain and I have a solid relationship.

cymbalta worked for me, but withdrawal is hell, even if you take it easy and stop using it gradually (ymmv).

i've decided that for me it's really not worth taking antidepressants anymore (sometimes ineffectual, sometimes just...meh). not to say i don't have those rough times when i just want to like do all sorts of crazy things anymore, but i've become better at managing without than dealing with the meds & their respective side effects.

ianad, just my two cents.

same here, exactly i found that the "cure" was becoming worse than the problem. it took me a long time to realize it but once i did and got off of all of those pills i felt much much better. (some of them were unbelievably awful to get off of, namely Ativan) my problems are just not "bad enough" to warrant all that rubbish. i have my rough spots but it smooths over eventually. what i came to truly accept was the simple concept that everything is temporary - this is as disappointing as it is reassuring, but either way i know whatever i am 'feeling' will pass, so i just bide my time when the "fit hits the shan". it works for me.

Well, now that we've established that we're not a big fan of our meds, can I start the flame on how much they cost? Thank goodness I have good heathcare, and yet I STILL pay almost $200 a month for my meds. How could those without healthcare or decent healthcare even afford that?

I was without health insurance for a good four months and my scripts ran about 600 a month retail.

My copays are about 90 a month, but I do not know what I do a year from now when COBRA runs out.

If it wasn't for Paxil and Nexium I'd be dead by now. To hell with the side effects. And who wouldn't want a second penis anyway?

Mine cost £4 ($7) a month.
The only thing good in Wales is cheaper prescriptions.

I love it when you take a headache medicine that says one of the side effects is headaches. Same with stomach meds. Make cause stomach aches. THEN WHY AM I TAKING IT!?!

(I guess they just have to put that stuff on that bottle, but it doesn't make me feel any better)

Because it's POSSIBLE that the 4 ulcers I had would perforate my stomach wall and KILL me. Maybe you too. Weight the alternatives. I'll take the odd bout of hot butt mud any day. The ulcers are gone.

I'm actually one that likes my meds, its the fact that I've been on and off of them for the past year and a half or so and my body has to adjust to them every time I go on or off which puts me through hormonal hell. When I'm on them they work well and do what they're supposed to.

As for cost, I don't have insurance so everything puts me back about $300 every 2-3 months or so, even if I did have insurance I would probably still buy them myself though, I don't know of any doctors in the area that know what the **** they're talking about in regards to my condition and give totally screwed up dosages.

Of course insurance doesn't even cover some of the other (more expensive) **** that I have to go through so its kinda worthless for me right now.

I hate this medical system. Hate it hate it hate it.

Grr.

Ouch!!

That's about what I paid, in total, for all my meds during the whole of 2005 (and that sum actually includes doctor visits too)...

Cripes, that's expensive. I'd be bankrupt (or very, very, sick) if I lived in the US...

Pills will NEVER fix you ... they will only 'cause more side effects. If you are comfortable with those you will take pills for the rest of your life. All these pill are synthesized from organic medicinal plants ... that have side effects which are what conservatives refer to as being high. This effect is produced by our own brain (specifically the pineal gland among others) like when it releases cannabinoids for you to get hungry (you know ... just like the munchies). We use natural cannabis and opiates every day of our lives (if our brain has learned how to use them). The less we ingest of these natural medicines the more our bodies forget and may be the eventual unnecessary path to dead useless cells (tumors; cancers).

Please stop making the pharmaceutical industry rich. If your not taking care of your body otherwise (eating healthy, exercising, meditation, learning, art, etc) then you should not even consider taking a medicine. Not drinking enough water and not breathing correctly are some of the easiest ways to fix our every day sickness, stress, and eventual lead to more complicated problems.

Pills will lead to running in circles patching the last drugs side effects and a steady income for the manufactures of those pills.

Everyone should ingest marijuana daily and use natural opiates for physical pain ... do your research.

And then suffer psychological problems later in life...

Move to Canada ... or apply for usage in the US. I'm unclear where other countries stand on this issue.

What psychological problems later in life are you refering to? I would bet my life the side effects from controlled marijuana ingestion are minscule when compared to long term effects of pharmaceuticals ...

Do your research ... taking a pill is usually the easy way out. So is a one line argument.
