I view it is a matter of personal taste. If I post a thread topic and some discussion starts up which takes the focus away from where I (as the OP) want the thread to go, then I might chime in with "OK guys, let's get back to the topic" and report if it continued. But generally speaking, I recognize the social nature of forums and am happy to participate in a discussion no matter where the topics drift to.

So, if the OP doesn't mind, I say it's not a big deal.

The Marketplace is different since by definition people have vested interest in keeping their buy/sell threads on topic, without interjection from competing buyers/sellers.

Moderators should spend more time cleaning threads.

erm?? are you perhaps mistaking Demis for Moderators.

We can only read some much in a day and when we come across problems we deal with them. Also we ask people to report problem posts so we actually know where the problems are.

Care to pay us? You do realize, we're volunteers. Doing this on our own time? Taking in snarky replies and complaints only because we care enough about the site to try to keep it pleasant, right?

Yes! Thank you to all the moderators who keep this site going.

I seem to have gotten on the bad side of many of the mods here due mostly to my stubborness and the fact that I pretty heartily disagree with the politics many of them subscribe to.

However, I have to defend them all on this topic.

There is no way they can make things "perfect" in regards to hijacking. This is a discussion board, and the purpose of the board is to discuss things. That means sometimes topics are going to drift, sometimes wildly. What is off topic to one person, may have been a completely natural progression of the conversation to another person. To ask moderators to figure out when the line is crossed is asking too much. Even I don't want to torture them that bad. ;)

The only alternative to what they are doing is to become Gestapo, taking away posts and posters in the night when none of us see it happen. A forum like this would totally suck if it were over-moderated to attempt to prevent hijacking.

What you said, devilot :) And what a great site you are all running - may you have another 8 years (and more). I am a mod on other forums, and all you get is grief, and no thanks, so THANKS all you mods, as some people really appreciate what you do even if they may not always say so.
