I got the 12 pro max 512GB variant.. I have a lot of songs and movies stored locally and I plan to shoot a lot of video. Additionally Apple's rawpro file format will be taking 25MB per photo.... But it seems like a lot of people claim 512GB is over kill and they stream everything... But I was curious if those same people aren't scared they will run out of space when they take more video?

I love having that cushion of the 512GB so I won't have to be worrying about deleting important files to save space. Is everyone storing everything in the cloud and streaming movies and music, so they figure they don't need 512? Or is it because its too expensive??

I think cost is a big issue as well as many utilizing cloud storage options. Also, if someone streams music and doesn’t take a ton of pics/videos, there wouldn’t be much to store.

As for me, while I use Spotify for music, I keep all of my photos and videos on my phone. I don’t like the cloud, prefer my things stored locally, and so I went 512gb.

I always thought I’d have to go 256 GB minimum. Last year i observed my usage and found that I had only about 60GB on my 256 GB phone used when it was time to upgrade. So I went with 128 GB. Now, 1 year later, I’m at 63 GB used. So i went 128 GB again. I have all my photos in the cloud (28.500 photos and 1.500 videos). No need for more local storage.

Wow, thats a lot.. what service do you use?

I think 256gb with 2tb icloud is the sweet spot....

Was about to get the 512gb pro max this year but decided on 256gb not paying the extra 200 UK pounds..

Only used 50gb storage on my iPhone 11 Pro 256gb....

This year I went with max storage configuration on both my iPhone Pro Max (512 GB) and iPad Pro (1 TB). My previous devices, I only had the minimum storage configuration.

Cost was an issue. However, historically I have never needed that much storage so I spent the price differential on accessories. Resale value probably won't vary that much from the 256GB model.

i’m on the IUP and it was just a couple more dollars a month so i said ‘why not?’ i decided i want to start vlogging and other content on my Youtube channel from my phone. editing videos on here is such a breeze. it’s amazing you can do that on a phone and not just a mac, imac, and ipad.

I have unlimited data so I stream all of my music and videos from the web. I do take lots of photos, but I copy them off to my computer once a month or so and back them up to the cloud. Don’t need anything more than 128GB.

No need. Even with all the pics on my phone, even with the playlists I want available offline, even with my crap ton of apps, I just can't fill that much space. So no need.
I also have unlimited data but most places I end up have wifi. So it's just not an issue.

I have 512GB on my iPad Pro and 120GB on my iPod classic - unlike most people I actually enjoy owning my music and not having to rely on Apple Music / constant data to listen to my favorite tunes.

And coming from a 256GB iPhone, I know that 128GB storage on my phone is more than plenty for me.

I no longer store my entire music library on my phone, so no need for all that extra space. Photos and videos get backed up to Google Photos, and most documents with iCloud and or Drive.

The last few years I've bought 512GB as I like having plenty of headroom. I shoot a lot more video on my phone these days and like to have it all available locally as well as synced to iCloud & my other devices.

Everyone's needs are different which is why we have options.

It all depends on how someone uses their device. Some people might use lots of apps or larger apps, some people might take many more photos and videos, some might have a lot of other media, while many might not really make that much use of any of those.

I work Offshore and the up/down speeds are poor, so I have finally taken the plunge with a 512

Fed up of not being able to watch a video, or waiting for the picture to load up (which can take ages) which is stored on the 2TB Cloud, I’ll leave that space for my Wife, Kids and my folks to use.

So yes it all depends on how people use their devices, but for me..it’s the 512gb and see how this one fairs instead of the usual 256gb

That reminds me, when I’m home I’ll make a point of actually going through ALL my videos/photos and deleting all the crap!

Definitely the preferred storage for me. I can see how folks that might spend 99.99% of their time in places with strong wifi could divest themselves of a good percentage of local data and depend on it being readily available via iCloud, but that mode just doesn't work for me for a variety of reasons.

So, I happily get the max storage every time. 🤘

People with bad connection that work in bad areas like tunnels and underground levels that can't stream are likely to have files in storage..

Last few iPhones I had 256GB, never came close to using it. Only time I really need on-device storage is downloading Netflix movies for on-device viewing in the air.

Everything else is streamed/backed up to the cloud. My just replaced Pixel 4XL has 128GB and looking at the storage, I've only used 57.71GB of it. I figured the 256GB Pro Max should give me plenty of headroom. Even the 128GB phone had like a ton of podcasts and my favorite music loaded on-device.

I will probably get 512 next year when I upgrade. I didn’t want to invest the money this year with a whole new design and not knowing which of the 4 I would end up liking best. And I really don’t know how much storage I’ll need. 256 is a known safe zone. If I find that videos and pictures eat up more storage than I’ve seen before, I will want to bump it up next time. Meanwhile I can put things up in the cloud. But I can’t ask Apple to just hand me a 256 gb new phone for my used 512 gb one if I realized I’m not going to fill that space in a year after all.
