I like the fact it is a physical button. The only thing that gets frustrating is when people ask to see my phone, 90% of the time they think it is a "touch" button and I have to say

"No PRESS it"

"No, I mean actually PRESS it"

"Here like this"

Rookie: "OHHHHHH, its a REAL button. I get it!"

yeah i had the same, my dad bought an ipod touch and when he took it for the first time after entering the music he said how do i go back and i say press that button and he touches it :p

No accidental sweeps of the hand to go home in the middle of doing something?

Sorry to revive this topic, but... funny enough, my iPhone 3G which is also suppose to have a mechanical home button started to work just like the touch-sensitive screen. And I can tell all you what a pain the in @$$ it is!

Just by sliding my finger over it activates the darn thing. So using any app on it is a tremendous amount of effort as it always ends up exiting in the middle of whatever you're doing.

But hey... I guess I'll auction it on eBay. The iPhone everyone wanted but Steve Jobs neglected to deliver. Laughing in order not to cry lol

You have to think, if the touch buttons on iPod 3G were so good, why are they no longer present on current iPod models? Brushing them was way to easy, that's why I prefer the physical home button.

1) Because it needs to work with the display and touchscreen off.

(Leaving the touchscreen on when in standby would drain the battery quite rapidly).

2) So that you can tell whether you are holding the device the right side up by feel, and double/triple click it without looking at the device (in your pocket for instance).

.

the home button is fine the way it is if they ever added another aple onto their devices i would no longer buy them apple is full of itself imo

they think there this all high and mighty co,mpany and dont get me wrong i like the iphone and ipodtouch i just dont think adding another apple as a home button would be cool in any way.

just my opinions

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

I personally really like the Home button, well just being a button!
I wouldn't really like it to be part of the interface. I don't know, I think it would be a little annoying for me.
Sometimes I just wish the button could be touchable instead of pressing it down. It highly irks me when someone comes by to play with my phone and they think the Home button is touchable. Then they ask me what's wrong with my phone.

the what would be the power button if there is no home button there is no power button.

Anyone? Surely, the phone would be much nicer if the button was touch as well! a la iPod 3G. Does anyone agree? Thanks

:):)

I dont believe it that a touch button fits on iPhone due the lack of space on display in the current form. We probably will see a mini click whell replacing the home button to fullfill consumerism (and replace ipod) and also to help to scroling pages faster

I doubt it, where the hell would you fit that??? It would be unusable, too.

if the home button was apart of the screen or some other touch thing, thats just another touch/sensor/screen that has to be active all the time and would just suck more battery life.

No, I meant it'd look exactly the same, it'd just be like a 3rd Gen iPod button
