Why does everyone get so upset about this?

They are still selling the 3GS! If you want a 3.5" screen you'll be able to buy the 4S for a very long time.

Why have everyone else suffer when people that want a 3.5" screen already have a few option while people that want bigger have to jump ship? I have a 4S and plan on having it for at least another year and a half regardless of what apple does screen wise.

Yep, plus they can always sell an iPhone and an iPhone XL alongside each other..the XL could have a bigger screen and battery.

That way everyone would be happy.

As long as Apple ensure the smaller devices have the same high spec as the larger unlike what Android device manufacturers seem to be doing then I can see no harm in this.

It's perfectly conceivable that Apple would stick with 3.5". It'd be a shame.

My personal prediction, however, is that Apple bumps up the size. Given the recent news about that new and thinner touch panel technology that Apple will likely utilize in the next iPhone, coupled with the rumor that the next iPhone will be the thinnest iPhone yet, I predict this will, in some ways, force them to reconsider a "wider/taller" battery, since the batter would probably have to be flatter or thinner. This will make the phone larger.

EDIT: http://www.phonearena.com/news/New-...-thanks-to-using-in-cell-touch-panels_id29323

There's a better story floating around that talks about why this would be a very logical move from Tim Cook, who's the master at maximizing supply chains. Forgot which site though...

It's interesting how desires have changed over the past year or two:

Not long ago, wishful threads were all about how Apple making a SMALLER screened device (an iPhone Nano).

Personally, I've found a use for smart devices ranging from wristwatch-sized to iPad-sized, with several stops in between.

Because then, the folks who continue to want a 3.5" screen will feel cheated out of getting a new phone (that's pretty much the same as the last one ).

i never really noticed this but when i went to look at some new phones yesterday it dawned on em that the iphones screen is tiny compared to most of the competition

So you can hold the iPhone in 1 hand and still touch anywhere on screen. If you get a Android phone for example you can't reach anywhere on screen because it's too big.

3.5 inch is perfect!

I am posting this from a Galaxy Note. This thing's screen is larger than my entire iphone and makes even my Lumia feel small. I dont think any phone should be quite this big but it might be the direction things are heading.

Look reading this bloody thread irritates me. If the next iPhones screen is bigger ill buy it. If it remains the same ill buy it. That's because I'm invested in the iOS operating system. Android is too fragmented for my liking and I just enjoy using ios. So can we just agree and admit that even though we like what we have already if it went bigger we would still flock.

Isn't the battery really going to decide the size of the next iPhone? Unless Apple has made some breakthrough in battery technology that allows for a super thin phone with great battery life.

It's weird. Just 4 years ago, the idea of a 3.5" screen on a phone was unheard of and revolutionary. Now it's "small". How much real estate does one need on a phone?

The iPhone is not just a phone anymore. It does much more and the little 3.5" screen is too small for today's cutting edge technology. Time Apple steps up. They do to need to worry and the die hard Apple fans will adapt and they know it. Where wold they go?:p

Actually, this is why I believe the next iPhone will indeed be larger. A recent report says they're planning to use new touch panel technology that allows for the device to be more simple to assemble, allowing for the supply chain to produce quicker (this is Tim Cook's forte; maximizing the supply chain). The report also says that this new touch panel will allow for the iPhone to be thinner (by how much, who knows).

If it gets significantly thinner, the battery is going to get flatter. So the only direction it can get "larger" is either grow longer or grow wider. To maintain battery vs. LTE, I think Apple will make a larger iPhone.

Source: look it up yourself (sorry, just being lazy. The new panel news was only about a week old).
