Well I decided to try the most recent jailbreak with my iphone 4. Like I originally said, I really only wanted mywi and maybe sbsetttings. I jailbroke my phone and I couldn't make any calls. I have an ATT iphone on a newer baseband. So that lasted only 5 minutes.
If you provide more information, perhaps someone can assist.

There are lots of people running MyWi and SBSettings (and more) and they are not having any problems making phone calls.

What version of iOS?
What baseband?
What version of MyWi?
Could you make calls before installing MyWi and SBSettings?

I have 4.3.1, and 04.10.01 baseband. I never was able to connect to ATT, and had 0 bars the entire time it was jailbroken. I tried resetting the phone, tried installing ultrasn0w, tried just about everything and then restored it. Now calls work fine.

I want to go from iPhone 4.1(8B117), 02.10.04, MyWi4.0, to the newest iOS and JB. Is that recommended with my firmware?

ultrasnow wouldn't have done anything since it's not designed to work with that level baseband. Now that you have a working 4.3.1 phone, I'd try again with redsn0w and just do the jb, no apps, but obviously it's your call. Nothing to lose but some time. You are running the same level iOS, baseband and are on the same carrier as I am.

Do you mean you want to preserve your baseband? If so, you have to use the pwnagetool.

I guess so. I thought the baseband didn't upgrade, or you had to do something to force it to upgrade? I'm really unclear about the baseband, BB, stuff. Any thread that does an especially good job of explaining it?

Thanks!

There are probably multiple threads about basebands. :D

The simple fact I operate under is - If you don't care about unlocking your phone, you never need to be concerned about basebands and can ignore all the threads about it.

Unlocking a phone is primarily a concern for a small subset of US residents on ATT. Which small subset? People who want to use their US iPhone on other GSM networks, e.g., in Europe. Yes, you can use your US-ATT iPhone in Europe, but you have to get an International plan from ATT to do it. You can't simply buy an O2 or Orange SIM card and put it in an ATT iPhone because it wont be recognized because the phone is 'locked' to ATT.

Unlocking your ATT iPhone would also allow you to use the T-Mobile EDGE (slow) network in the US.

So, if you do not spend a lot of time in Europe and using the slower T-Mobile network doesn't appeal to you, you can ignore all unlocking and baseband threads and discussions.

I am not disrespecting the devs that work on jailbreaking. I am glad they are as smart as they are. I understand that things use to be simpler when there was only 1 iphone and 1 carrier. But it is frustrating when people jailbreak their phones and some basic features like network stop functioning. I miss when it was simpler, and when it worked much better.

Sorry but if downloading a file, unpacking that file, downlaoding official iOS, pointing said unpacked file towards official iOs, and then following directions to put your phone if DFU mode is to hard you have a rude awakening coming. In life because many things are not any where near as easy as this jailbreak.

Sounds like you used Pwange and didn't uncheck the Activate box in Advanced mode. If you try again, simply make sure you do that part and you will have service. Chalk it up to (your) user error.

No problems for me concerning 4.3.1 JB. I ignore the BB stuff (don't need to unlock, Vodafone do me fine) and it's awesome.

Love it.
