Tap and hold on the message and select more?

Except that doesn't work with linked text which is why the post I quoted said you could tap and hold on any bubble to bring up that menu. But that doesn't work when their is only one bubble.

What linked text? First you mention any of that. If for some reason you can't tap and hold to do that then you can probably try something from various other replies about some different workarounds to see what might work for you.

This is one of my biggest peeves. In iOS 6 there was an edit button. When you pressed it the Delete and Forward buttons became active.

But now with iOS 7 we're all so clever that we don't need any indication at all. So poke, swipe, and hold. One or none of those may work.

So remember, tap and hold:
  • Unless the message is just an HTTP link, then you cannot do anything except Open / Add to Reading List / Copy.
  • Unless the message is just an address, then you cannot do anything except Open in Maps / Add to Contacts / Copy.
  • If the message has some text besides an HTTP link or address, then you need to try and tap and hold that text. And if you instead accidently (or intentionally) tap and hold the link or address and choose copy, the non-link portion of the message isn't copied so you can't paste a name and address somewhere else.
Did I miss anything?

I want to say that I am in no means defending this implementation as I am not a fan of it either, but in cases where's it is just a link, if you hold and slide your finger down a little you do actually get the dialogue edit box.

Good tip! I just tried it and it works. :)

Post number 5: it's where all the quoting originated from. If it's a link you can't click and hold to forward or delete. Someone mentioned you can click and hold on any (other) bubble and go from there. The problem is that if there is only one bubble and it's not a conversation there are no other bubbles to click on.

Someone mentioned sliding your finger, but that's not working for me. I either get the hyperlink popup (with no option to forward or delete) or I scroll the bubbles. Wouldn't be the first time I fat-fingered it.

Woohoo, I got it to work. Actually sliding off of the bubble brought up the menu. Now, hopefully I don't ever have to explain that move to my mom who is using my old iPhone 4.

But you never mentioned anything about post #5 or anything related to it until just in the previous reply, so it wasn't really possible to know that you were referring to that all along.

In any case though, sounds like you figured it out based on some workarounds mentioned and/or through some error/trial.

I assume you have logged it with Apple?

No, I think it is working as designed. :) Maybe a feature request.

the new contact button is more useful

I use the Contact button way more than I ever delete texts.

Good stuff! Legit question: Why do you use the contacts button from there? I might be missing out on something handy. I've never had a reason to open contacts from a conversation.

Amazing! You need a PayPal Donate button. :D This is why I whine in the forums. If it can be done, someone will figure it out! (It took me about 10 tries but once I understood the technique it's easy. Slide finger down after grey box appears around the link and before the menu slides up from the bottom).

No, but I responded to the post that responded to it. Lol.

When I read a text and I realize it's easier to just make call than answering by text it's quite handy. Or someone texts me to call him (If I can call him for free and he or she doesn't). It's not the most used feature, but yet I need this more often than deleting texts.

Yeah I have an idea, it's pretty simple :) Add "More..." to the available options when tapping on a contact or link. I don't have time to make a UI mockup but it's less than a days work to do it right based off my previous UI design work.

Edwin
I'll pay you to do it

I think it's safe to say that the new UI is less intuitive than it previously was. Some things are just not as obvious. It's easier for the kind of people who hang out in forums like this to adapt, but people who are less tech savvy might struggle more with things that should be simple.

In OP's example... Holding down on a message presents "Copy" and "more..."... And "more" jumps straight to selecting messages and presenting options.

Perhaps then, "more" should be replaced with "Select". Just one example of course.
