You don't have to use Exchange for this. All you need to do is plug your iPhone into your computer, go to the iTunes Info tab and check the Sync Address Book Contacts and Sync Google Contacts boxes. It will prompt you for your Gmail userid and password. After you enter the Gmail credentials, your contacts will sync up everytime you plug the iPhone in and iTunes does a sync. I use this feature and it works perfectly.

If you want the biggest selling point of Android (i.e. complete integration of Google Services), then you should not be buying an iPhone. It's like asking why Microsoft has not ported Direct X to OS X.

as an android user, the gmail app sucks on andriod as well. i use the stock mail app and push gmail. a lot better.

Poor analogy.

Google's business model works on them getting as many people as possible using their services (no matter what device they use). Microsoft's doesn't.

The only reason there is no GMail app for the iPhone is simple - Apple will not allow it or any other Mail client in the App Store.

I don't have this problem using the Exchange account.

Ditto. Google just needs to convince Apple to convert the standard GMail setup in Mail to being exchange instead of IMAP. Then again, I miss the ability to delete a message on my phone, and it actually going to the trash, instead of being archived (which Google thinks is what people really need to do, never delete anything).
