Dear MacRumors, firstly thank you for your wonderful site. However can you please stop your sponsor from posting crap about this racist nonsense overwhelmingly flooding the propaganda wing and media in the UK already. It’s pathetic and I’m not interested. I’ll block the ads here if this is the kind of nonsense that’s going to be shoved in my face while visiting. It’s bad enough I have to live in the dictatorship this crap is targeted at. Also, really neither lady in that picture is to blame for the racism.

You could always pay for a subscription then you don’t see the adverts. Makes for a more pleasant read.

On a serious note, do "train" Google to fetch you proper results by not visiting sketchy sources or it will quite literally brainwash you, it's insane how results on already-established matters can differ from person to person based on their habits.

Go ahead and search 1+1=3, the top result is the proof.

And that’s how i divorced your mother, i just wanted to jump off a cliff and she wouldn’t let me.

Because those ads are personalised and your browsing profile suggested that you are into Meghan, admit it!

I’m not! I’m not! 🤣

You know what’s funny, I’ve actually been tagging every... single... monarchy... article in Apple News as “not interested” without opening it on purpose every single time one appeared since day one of Apple News launching and yet... I still get these articles popping up time and time again non-stop! Honestly, why are we even given that option in Apple News!?

With regard to this specific ad though I’ve seen various UK celebs used in this format by what I’d assume is the same advertiser, I just think in this particular situation given the brief knowledge I know on this subject is pretty disgusting of them to use this topic as a sales pitch technique on their clickbait.

Look what i am getting, communists! Wanna trade ads?

The site and board itself are nice and clean, everything runs fast and there is little (if any) real downtime. That said, the ads are the most atrocious and intrusive of any site out there and without an adblocker or paid subscription to remove them the experience is painful and polluted with spam. Hoping they stay away from the paywall but it won't be surprising if they go down that road.

I've been a paying member for so long I have no idea what ads are like on this site anymore. I ... CANNOT... stand... ads especially if I'm paying for something. (Despise Apple News for this reason). I realize people gotta make money but if I'm going to pay for something, I wanna read it without distraction. AdGuard Pro ftw and I'll go out of the way to support sites I like.

Polluting with ads just makes everything worse.

Right and to be fair they're not forcing them through ad blockers right now, which a lot of other sites do and I'm hoping it stays that way. Opening the site up in a different browser without the blocker I counted 12 ads just to get to this post by navigating organically. Data shows about 25% of users block ads on average, so that still leaves a good chunk receiving them. Arn may not following the royalties but someone's getting paid, you can bet on that. ;)

that barely works. I listen to one odd music on apple music and im plagued with weeks and weeks of that music being suggested despite clicking "dislike"

It's like sending an error report in windows. Wasted effort

Oh don’t get me started on Apple Music! My Dad’s recommendations on it are great, all I get is piles and piles of rap and hip hop. What Apple!? I very rarely listen to anything in that genre and if I do it’s usually from back in the 80s when it wasn’t aweful nonsense about money... yet that is ALL Apple Music talks to me about... suggests... 😟 To each their own but none of what it suggests do I want to hear.

It's affinity targeting, it broadly categorises you based on the 'sphere' you are browsing in, here's google's description...

Affinity: Reach users based on what they're passionate about and their habits and interests. Custom audiences: Depending on your campaign goal, reach users based on what they're passionate about, their habits and interests, and reach users based on their recent purchase intent.

It really isn’t though. I couldn’t care less about celebrity gossip. Possibly more accurate with me specifically is that I usually block so much, opt out of cookies, and clear my browsing history so often that it just has to punt a guess and by logic goes with what would work on average best.

In a funny way I half wish folk would ask what I’m interested in rather than try to guess, it’s like Twitter who try to add pointless and irritating feature after pointless and irritating feature in a desperate attempt to get into profit and survive rather than... oh I dono Twitter maybe take €15 off me which is way more than ads will make you and stop showing me the same irrelevant ad tweet as every third tweet 🤣

Celebrity gossip would be a very specific niche, in this instance we are categorised as a "social media users" and the message to advertisers is that it's a big and diverse crowd that they can try to market their product to, marketing to pre-existing loyal customers will not grow the business.

On a side note this is a real drag, anytime you google something it appears in ads everywhere going forward. A better case for anonymous browsing couldn't be made.

I get a lot of the celebrity gossip as well even though it's something I've never looked at, makes you wonder if it's not a default when it doesn't have anything targeted.

Oddly enough, also, I neither use Facebook or Google 🤣 I’m such a pain to these ad people aren’t I 😂
