Why is using my "Powermac G5" different...

You don't get that opportunity with PPC Macs unless you're buying in person and the seller's willing to turn it on(rare in my experience, and I've bought a LOT of Macs in person) or you have a friend with one set up for you to use.

True, true. I want a 13" white-Macbook and a 15" Powerbook G4. :)

You ok? Welcome back from 2006. I'll quickly summarize what has happened in the past 10 years;

1. ISIS is bad.
2. PowerPC is no longer in use by the general population.
3. PowerPC macs are unsupported and no longer sold by Apple.
4. Miley Cyrus is no longer is good girl who lives a double life.
5. Apple made a phone and called it the iPhone.
6. Apple took an iPod and steamrolled it into a larger device and called it the iPad.
7. We have 1inch thin TVs that display 3D video and have picture quality that is know as 4K... It looks nice.
8. Apple made a Watch and called it The Apple Watch
9. Samsung copies everything Apple does.
10. The price of gas went up, but is coming back down (lucky you that you missed it)
11. The stocks have gone down the toilet.
12. People take pictures with their phones and call it a selfie.
13. Mankind is doomed
14. Microsoft released the Xbox One
15. Sony released the PS4
16. Nintendo released the 3DS, a DS with 3D
17. Nintendo also released the Wii U
18. Microsoft is now on Windows 10. Praise God you missed Vista and 8.
19. Barely anyone smokes anymore.
20. It's 2016 in a week...

That just about sums it up for ya. If anyone else has anything to add, please do so. This person needs some help learning what happened in the past 10 years.

True. To think when the G5 was the newest thing the iPhone/iPad didn't exist.

So then why do you want to buy a PowerBook G4? I want to because I get enjoyment out of older machines and I'm a collector, but for the average end user, it's usually just a waste of money in today's day and age...

I do LOVE the design of the G5. And hmmmm.... I love the design of Macs.
It's interesting to think the G5 WAS the top-of-the-range thing at one point.

They do have a very nice design... But if you want a 15 or 17in PB, get a 15 or 17in MacBook Pro. They have the exact same design style, and are much more useful in modern times

I feel the same way sometimes. I will use my G5 even though there is an upgraded first-gen Mac Pro, better in nearly every way, right on top of it. Perhaps it's the desire to keep the obsolete tech alive, coupled with the Aqua appearance of Mac OS X Leopard :)
