They don't sell it because the combination doesn't match. Virtually all black stainless steel watches are sold with all black bands. The classic strap has a silver colored buckle, pin, and hinge mechanism.

I wonder how bad that would actually look... Because that is a combination I kinda want. :)

Ah ok.

I wondered a few days ago maybe if Apple is wiser to just have all the watch and bands separate. Let say they ran out of the space gray with black bands because it was so popular, and all they had left is the watch with green band, wouldn't they just limit themselves from making a sale?

So an example is you pick the aluminum case you want, plus the sports band in the color you want, and you pay $349 or $399, depending on whichever size you picked. That way, there's no "We only have the silver aluminum with green band in stock".

i wish they had done it this way (like michele watch brand does)... but i guess they knew they'd lose a lot of upsell sales from the black ss band for people like me who woulda bought the cheapest sports band then found a 3rd party dressier band)

Does Space Black come with a different band than the link bracelet??

I was looking at the Apple website and they're only showing the space black model with link bracelet. Is it because its the only bracelet that is sold with it?? If so, thats a real shame :/

Not that I hate the link bracelet, in fact its the most beautiful, but I just dont have that budget....

And even if I could buy a leather ones after, they wouldn't match right? they would have a SS clasp...?

(If this thread already exists, im sorry and please send me there :) )

This is one of the most common questions we get. Yes, the link bracelet is the only option you have and assuming you sell it to recoup some of the cost, the only compatible bands are the Leather Loops (as these have no metal connectors) and the Space Gray sport band.

I wish it was different though. I really want the Classic Buckle for the Space Black model. I might try the combination out anyway but I am afraid it will look too garish.

Yep, if you want that color for this highly personal and customizable watch you have to get it with only that band. But if you want one of the other several bands that match it of course you'll have to buy the expensive link bracelet with it and then the band that you want separately.

Why is  Watch w/ Space Black Case Only Available w/ the Link Bracelet?

This has probably been covered here; but why in the world is the Stainless Steel  Watch Space Black case only available with the link bracelet?

The “regular” stainless steel case is available for sale with a variety of bands, but not the Space Black one.

I’d like to purchase a stainless steel 42mm Space Black Stainless Steel Case with a black sport band. I know I could buy it as-is with the bracelet and purchase a black sport band separately, but that’d be $1150!

I think its to keep it exclusive or something. Im not totally sure why, but apple probably knows there are people that want to color and will pay the premium to get it.

"Why is a cool looking watch only available in a certain configuration I don't have the money for?"

-OP

Answer: Marketing.

It is marketed that way to promote a degree of exclusivity. They want it seen as unique. (my opinions)

There have been countless threads on this exact topic.

While none of us have the answer, my guess is that because the Space Black case is the most 'premium' (with the Diamond-Like Carbon coating this isn't really a question) and many people find it more attractive, they figured people would pay the price to get that casing even if they had to spend $449 extra for a Link Bracelet.

In addition, by only having the Space Black case with Link it reduces their number of SKU's and creates a myst of exclusivity around that model, which makes people desire it.

Certainly worked for me. :D

Simple, because the SS Space Black w/Link Bracelet is for ultimate bad asses, and a BSB just well....isn't. :p

On a serious note, probably for the reason stated above. The Link Bracelet is the most expensive, so they probably wanted the Space Black to be exclusive and hence only made it available with the most expensive band in the line-up, and then added a bit more to the cost.

Yeah, I hear ya.

I wanted a Black SS with a black leather loop. Because of the configuration limitations I went with a SG Sport and will add the loop later.

Saved some bucks and got a lighter watch and sports band for running and workouts as well.

Also, it crossed my mind that if one wears the watch most of the time, which I do, no mater the material, it's gonna show wear. When I trade in my iPhones they look brand new. When it's time to trade my old watch in I suspect the value will take a hit even if I went with SS. I might go with something nicer looking with the Gen2.

It will probably be due to the predicted volume of sales, and not wanting to reduce profitability by splitting the demand for a black watch between multiple permutations.

As things stand, there is a black sport option and a black steel option. I haven't seen any figures, but few people seem to wear black watches. I am sure Apple will have done their homework on this. The majority of the demand is probably for silver watch derivatives, so this is where you get the most variation.

You see this with cars a lot. If the demand for a model type is low you get less permutations available for purchase. If demand will be high you can afford to split that demand between derivatives whilst still maintaining profitability. This is one type of 'cannibalising sales'.
