I've applied liquid metal and when rendering clips from Motion 5 the i7 sits at 4.2-4.6ghz with relative ease and the temp is 80-85c

Just a question, which temperature reading is it that you're referring to here?

I was using the "Intel Power Gadget" app. It gives you usage, power draw and temperature of the CPU.

Ah ok, I use istat menus which gives a ton of different readings. If it corresponds with the CPU PECI reading (or any of the individual cores) then that's pretty impressive. I just ran my i5 flat out at 3.5GHz for 2h-ish with some handbrake encodes and it sat at around 96-98 degrees for that reading. However, "CPU System Agent" was in the 82-84 degree range throughout.

From memory, I'm sure it was using about 3-4 cores and hitting 4.2ghz - 4.5ghz when using Motion 5 and exporting a clip that took 2 minutes to export. It used to take just over 4 on the Mac Pro 2013 ( 6 core 32gb ram, d500). I think motion 5 may limit the number of cores used (not sure) and as a result maintained hight ghz without hitting the 95/100c limiter. I'll know better later this month when I work on aother Motion 5 project.
