See, this is just it, those that have held jobs will understand this. Your boss requires you to get a project/report done for x days, it's required because a new item is coming into production or a change of product or new customer coming in and needs info. Are you going to give your boss some BS excuse why this can't be done when requested, of course not because your job is important to you and you don't want to loose it.

But when it comes to companies/businesses that know a new product is coming out, it takes them months to update their apps/software. If delays are not accepted in your work place, why do you accept delays from companies/businesses to update their apps within a timely manner? I don't and will move my business elsewhere to those who value their customers.

If a bank expects their customers to use their phone app then that bank should update their app to work on the new phone within a few weeks of the new phone being released. Apple stated updating apps to the new iphone X would take only a few hours so there is no excuse for the bank not to update the app within a few weeks, not months and months later.

If you defend such behavior then you have no right to complain about other things being delayed, like mail or food deliveries, or late food in a restaurant, because that's just how things work in life, well according to the defenders of delays.

The problem is that you actually don’t have any understanding on how software development works. It’s not comparable to any other industry and is not something you’ll understand unless you’re part of it. Whatever you mentioned above just doesn’t make sense in software engineering.

Ps. The apps generally WORK fine on the X. What you’re referring to is a visual preference rather than functional problem and don’t forget app development is not the core business of a bank. Priorities matter.

I remember when the change happened from 5 to 6 (or was it from 4 to 5) there were pretty fast updates. It’s now 2 months since the announcement yet most of my apps (nothing special) are not yet optimized. Thoughts?

yes its take time but what more I see that some of those developers are not working any more, for example by upgrading from IOS 10... to 11.. I lost few APPS that not support and the developer is gone. also iPhone 8 not support some of my old APPS but thats lift you have to get use to it without being angry

Don't hold your breath. Google is always one of the slowest. Whatsapp used to be very slow but it changed after being acquired by Facebook.

Day one they had photos, youtube, chrome and others going. Takes time, and they have a large library.

It's mainly due to their excessive use of non standard UI elements aka the material design, which takes them a lot of work to just change the aspect ratio.

The fact it take months for these companies to get their app's updated shows how bad their focus is towards their customers.

Priority matters. Bad app could cost a company but if it is not their core business, then people will still use their services nonetheless. There are so many businesses that do not require an app to operate.

As stated by others, banks, like many large companies, are slow at developing apps for the new phone. Since there is no critical change that affects app functionality, months of delay is pretty normal.

Because in the workplace, people demand the job to be done ASAP. However, there is no obligation to "release a product at a set due date" to customers. If you are curious, read ToU/ToS of some of the apps you are using. I guarantee you there is no clause requiring developers to update their app in a set interval or timeframe.

Again, priority matters. Mail or food delivery is a timed service. Failure of delivering in time could generate losses or damage. As of the bank, it is way more important to safely, accurately and rapidly send each and every dollar from one entity to another, than updating an app to adapt to cosmetic design changes. Most people won't be angered if their bank app has a black bar on the screen. But they will be angered if their hard-earned salary is not transferred to their bank account due to the system error.

Every developer works differently. No way to answer your question. 40 of my 44 apps are updated for the iPhone X.

I don't understand why it takes so long either. I updated my apps pretty quick. It didn't take much really. The way my apps are, the notch didn't make a difference.
