I'm going to say it's so that everybody will still be inside the 30 day window for returning their EVO's to Sprint.. Maybe it's the soonest Apple could adjust?

Maybe we're reading too much into "why" a thursday.

Or....maybe he picked a thursday so he could hear/read all about people asking "why a thursday, why the 24??"

:D

So that way it doesn't look so suspicious when you call in for a sick day that you are just trying to get a 3 day weekend.

Perhaps they are doing this on a Thursday so the inevitable issues that arise can be addressed the next day which is a business day and not a weekend with a skeleton staff.

You guys may think this is ridiculous, but this is my theory and I think it may be accurate. Michael Jackson died on June 25 last year, which is the Friday. Obviously, Apple typically likes to launch on Fridays, but the one year anniversary of Michael Jackson's death is going to be all over the news that day. Maybe they thought it wouldn't be appropriate or something to launch on that day, considering it was one of the most publicized deaths of our time.

Or we could be more cynical and say that Apple didn't want the news about the one year anniversary to overshadow the iPhone 4 release.

And please, don't be babies and make jokes about Michael Jackson. It's been done enough. I do think my theory could be valid though. =)

Wow, can't believe it's been a year already since he passed. Was a big fan through the ages. But, I can see how that is a viable reason. Apple is also all about the music. Maybe they'll have a nice dedication and/or sales in iTunes.

Try having a wedding or birthday on September 11. It's sad that some days get "blacklisted" like that, but time may help heal a lot for many.

You also have to realize that Apple is meticulous, probably more than we'll ever know. From their designs and build quality, to their closed curtain attitude and curated App Store, to key phrases spoken in verbatim at keynote presentations, everything that Apple does and says is always thought out very carefully and tactfully.

i hadn't realized that... wow.... a year.... do you all remember where you were and how you first heard the news?

anyways.... as meticulous and anad as apple is... i'd bet money that this plays a part... not that we'll ever know!
