Hasn't it been proven though that OS X is just that secure that malware really isn't easy to produce for Macs? I refuse to believe that just because OS X is a small percentage of the market that someone out there hasn't tried to be the first to create a devastating virus.

The market share argument is garbage.

OS X has a higher market share (and mind share, more importantly) than OS 9 in the late 90s.

OS 9 had viruses. Not a lot, but viruses nonetheless.

So logically, the market share argument says there ought to be viruses for OS X. At least a few. Where are they?

The market share argument is a way for MS apologists/Apple haters to excuse MS for their inattentive attitude toward security while taking a sucker punch at OS X's comparatively small market share. The argument holds no water and I'm sick of hearing it.

Case closed.

all i know is that macs are a whole lot simpler to use than pcs. I would never go back to using windows...

I agree that Macs are much simpler to use. Personally, I have zero hassles on my Mac (home) in relation to my Windows box (work), and when I do wonder about something with the Mac, I just come here. Usually, a search shows that it's already been asked and answered, but if not, I post a question and have always gotten an answer within a day - and often within hours or minutes.

I've had 3 family members switch to Mac, and two of them had big problems with the Windows machines they had first (neither of them were terribly computer literate, and they tended to get stressed and give up when the usual Windows problems occurred). Now, they use their computers well, and seldom have to ask for help.

My Windows box constantly had conflicts - I spent a huge amount of time maintaining the system. With my Mac, I just compute. :)

OP
- you say you are having trouble with MSN. My 15-yr-old uses MSN for Mac with no problem. Could you be more specific about what sort of issues you're having with it?

Gee, what a nice welcome to a potential switcher!

Welcome to all potential switchers. Luckily this forum only has a small number of snobs. Most people here are pretty helpful.

As a longtime Windows user I'd say Macs are easier to use because you require less technical know-how to accomplish what should be a simple task. Windows software is generally more convoluted. Definitely more focus, just look at their product line and compare to market leaders Dell/HP.

Mac has 5% market share and growing ... what that means is I'll continue to use Windows (at work) and Mac (at home) for years to come unless all the big companies that employ us [those of us non-snobs who don't live in our parent's basement :)] make a switch to Mac OS. Not all of us earn our paycheques as artists

Go Mac and run Windows (VMWare/Parallels) as well so you have the best of both worlds and decide which application in which OS serves your needs the best.
