Second, it does seem like every time Apple releases something new, there's a torrent of criticism. Yet I'm really happy with everything I've bought. The forums tend to make me worry about things, or notice things I wouldn't otherwise have noticed. For example, there was talk about the MacBook Pro (2016) keyboard being really noisy. I guess it is, but I'm pretty sure that never would have occurred to me had people not mentioned it.

I've noticed the same thing. I used Apple products since the Apple 2, and simply bought them, and used them. However, since I started reading macrumours a couple of months back I started looking for issues.

In reality it's a small user group that makes a lot of noise, once I've finished checking if the macbook is warped, if there's any backlight bleed on my ipad pro, whether my airpods battery is fine, if my fans work properly, if there's any tiny blemish on the back of my watch, then I'm happy.

Like you, I've been happy with every Apple product I have purchased. (Even the touchbar)

Wow. That does surprise me.....Mind you, with over 13k posts it's a very low ratio, and I doubt I posted anything that would light any fires.

Since it wasn't this year that you posted there, most likely not. Right now you could simply sneeze and someone would argue you are doing it wrong. Then again the same goes for a lot of the regular threads. With all the "Gates" and "You're doing it wrong" posts floating about.

It does feel that online forums in general have the ability to become battlefields. Most of us are rather anonymous and that gives a certain freedom to be used (and some would say abused) more vividly.

At times various news threads get placed in PRSI either from the beginning or at some point if they take on more of a PRSI type of turn, which can apply to some general threads as well at times too. I think most of the relatively few PRSI posts that I might have are generally due to that than any actual PRSI forum involvement or visits (which I think I can count on one hand in all the years here).

That's just how MR has always been, and without wishing to start a war, latest "new" stuff has, IMO been lame as heck. Nuff said.

I'd be interested to learn which psychological factors motivate people to browse the PRSI. It's like a drug; I know it's only going to cause pain, but I can't help myself. The thread titles are so alluringly inaccurate or antagonistic.
That sub forum should shut down. It's a baiting section.

Online forums in general can be battlefields. And some posters write in a way, where those words wouldn't be said to their friend, spouse, boss, mother, etc. References made to obscure things, non-sequitors etc.

I still try to envision, though, I'm replying to my mother/spouse:).

I wouldn't take it too seriously. It's nothing like real life here (thankfully!)

Well, as I don't know the country, I'm not in a position to offer an opinion on that, so I'll take your word for it.

Nevertheless, re US cultural and political stuff, I find this site extremely useful - I regard it the way scientists may have regarded the strange and inexplicable things they sometimes see though a microscope - they exist, they are weirdly repellant at times, and there is no comprehensive account which comes close to explaining how such peculiar things can possibly exist in this world.

You'd be better reading a good US newspaper. It's not all "fake-news". Honest.

In fact, just last week, I did the unthinkable and paid $129 for a year's subscription to the New York Times. I was tired sifting through the inauthentic shouting and fake positioning the internet is sadly awash with now. It saves time.
