still, i bet you were surprised the air still worked after

I was not surprised at all because this is a lame comparison, performed by lads who don't know anything about testing durability. It was all about showing off the high speed 'damage' camera used for something soooooo stupid.

Clearly they made NO realistic comparison, I love humor, but this video is just rediculous and serves no purpose at all.

If you have the funds (by any means) perform a test that is useful to yourself and / or others.

I think I've made myself clear!

Cheers

Nice builds and pictures you have there.

However, I don't feel I was being disingenuous. When cracked open, far more PCs will look like my picture than yours.

It's a bit disingenuous because you're comparing it to some random DIY build. It would be more apt to put it up against something from HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc..

Most Mac users were at once time PC users. PC users probably never used a Mac so there judgement is not valid.

But many of those Windows -> Apple users (since Apples are PCs now) moved long ago, so their judgments were formed against Windows operating systems from long ago - and are also not valid.

yeah.. such idi0ts
they also know nothing about what a usable computer looks like.. the gave both a pass after test #2 even though both require buying a new machine.. then those ftards give the mbair a pass after test #3 ??!

---edit
stupid attempt at sarcasm.. i've been to your country before and i liked exactly everyone i met there.. i'm sure i would like you too.
i get what your point is and in general, agree with what you've said.

1-10 scale. Score awarded for overall usability (apps, gaming, productivity) and compatibility (hardware support, drivers, etc). Points deducted for bugginess, ugly interface theme experiments

I'm not including anything pre-OSX or pre-XP

No OS deserves a 9 or 10.

10 -
9 -
8 - Snow Leopard, Windows 10
7 - El Capitan (beta - will likely earn another point later), Yosemite, Mavericks, Windows 7
6 - Windows 8.1, Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion
5 - Windows XP, Panther, Jaguar, Tiger
4 - Windows Vista, Puma
3 - Windows 8
2 - Cheetah

Windows 8 took the latest Windows to a direction that even many Windows users do not want to go. I was suggesting the Mac users that run Windows in a VM or at least have easy access to Windows (work). I only know of a small group of Mac users (+60) that haven't used Windows in a long time.

Well they partly undid that with 8.1 and Windows 10, I've been using Windows 10 for a while and I like it.

Mac aren't any better than PC. They use the same component that for the most part are built in the same Foxcon or other chinese and korean factories. You hear more about PC related problem because there are exponentially more PCs than Mac in service around the world. The Mac hasn't been the top video/photo/audio creation computer since they went PC based since the same big production software is available on both Mac and PC and PC cost less. Mac also lost its edge in the education and scientific/research field since Apple has just about abandonned those field or priced itself out of reach.

Mac are a status symbol. Like driving an Acura or Lexus instead of a Honda or Toyota...

The materials used to make Macs are not the same as those used to make PCs specially glass and aluminum. Those vehicles use the same components and same materials. Not a fair comparison as they also come from the same companies.
Is like saying why people prefer using a Mac Pro instead of a Mac Mini, both come from the same company.

I really hate brand evangelism. I'll tell you what I use and why I like it, but I don't care if anyone else uses it and I'm not going to try to convince anyone else that it's better. Arguing over which is better is dumb.

This meets the criteria on both accounts

Same CPU, same GPU, same ram, same SSD and HDD... Glass and Aluminium is only for the esthetics and have nothing to do with the reliability of the machine.

Aluminum ensures better heat transfer than plastic, and the structural design of the frame/case provides stiffness not achieved with a plastic that cracks.
Tempered glass that withstand use and abuse better than an exposed display that for example will easily enjoy dead pixels after being compressed with the laptop keys.
The full system reliability depends on all the components not only the electronics.
Now if you were to mention that the disposable Macs are all glued an not serviceable that is another topic. But certain Macs are still way better packaged than most of the cheaper PCs out there.
How long does you keep a PC hardware working flawlessly vs how many years we keep our Macs?
I personally had used 4 Macs is the past decade, 2 of them still kicking and screaming all my friends and relatives who use PCs are costantly buying a 'new' computer every year there it goes the reliability of their hardware and software.

This debate is so 1990s it should come with baggy cargo pants, flannel shirt, a Sony Discman and wraparound sunglasses.

Yep.

Frankly, the debate hasn't made any sense since Apple switched to Intel. At least in the PowerPC days there was a technical difference between Apple's offerings and the majority of competitors, so debating the merits of each could be useful. It's all the same hardware now, so it comes down to OS preference, and even then in neither case are you limited to OS X or Windows on that hardware anyway.

Since the introduction of the Raspberry Pi we all should be using computers with foam cases and there will be no difference in the hardware either, at the end that is the best bang for the buck...

Nothing in that is specific to the Mac... And you want to eliminate some "disposable mac" but keep the "disposablepc" in your comparaison... Why is that. A bit dishonest no?

I have a park of 25,000 PCs at work. We replace the desktop every five years to keep abreast of the advance in technology. 95% of those never needed any hardware replacement in their life and are still quite usable. We give them to a non profit company that employs handiccaped people so they can be resold. And those are cheap "business" computers from HP and dell, not their performance, better build model.

I don't know from what ass you got your data that Mac last longer or are better built. Have you even open one up and see what it's inside? They're not special "apple" only components. They are the same exact parts that every body else use.
