Even in darkest of rooms when you are typing, your display emits a soft light, which is reflected by keys of the keyboards. It is not backlit solution, but one can see keys. AI simulated drawing. It is less clear for darker shade notebook (Indigo) but still can be seen (picture is not attached).

While I've always adored that feature, I don't think it was ever really necessary. I don't think the white plastic macbooks ever had that, either.

Incorporating the IBM TrackPoint I see... immediate buy if they do that.

it is just ai drawing
Yeah, I know. I read your original comment. I'm actually semi-serious. I worked at IBM when they still owned the ThinkPad brand and I only ever owned ThinkPads up until 2009 when I made the switch to Mac and haven't looked back. But I really liked the TrackPoint back in the day.

yup, I liked it too. Actually there was time when Macbooks (at that time Powerbooks) had such "nipple" (1993?)

The amount of justification when it comes to apple shouldn't be surprising. The lack of a backlit keyboard is an issue, especially in low light situations.

Never used the backlight on my MacBook Pro’s or the iPad Pro’s with Magic Keyboard.

I have lights in the ceiling, ligths standing on the table and on the floor. Thats enough for me and many others.

I was taught to type without look back in the early 2000s and all throughout college. I’m so confused when I see complaints about no back lit keyboard.

When I had it on my previous MBP 2009 and MPB 2015 I never even utilized it because I know how to type without looking.
Same here - learned to type on a Smith Corona manual typewriter for years in high school back in the 1980's.

Never look at the keyboard so backlit is a non issue for me.

Nowadays, with the young generation who hunt and peck at keys, I can understand the need.....

Same. In fact, I think the look of a backlit keyboard is janky. It shows the minor misaligned keys through light bleed through.

I dont approve of your message one bit. I mean I thought that would have been the obvious reason why they chose to make the keys white instead of black. Even so just for the sake of seeing how bad it could be, I turned my keys off while I am typing this and while I dont really need to look at it to much anyways obviously, I can see my keys just fine. It isn't so much as a need as much as a luxury in most instances, but it generally is fairly cheap I suppose to do, because you do see it in a decent amount of computers out there, although I think the way that most of keyboards out there do it isn't as good of quality as what Apple's solution could be.

For my daily use at home on the Mac Studio, I use the Apple Magic full sized BT keyboard with numeric pad.

Have been taught to use the 10 key from touch/feel like my alpha typing.

No need for a backlight since it doesn't have it....

Trash AI image that shows (a) the name of the product misspelled, (b) a Lenovo trackpoint nipple, (c) a weird version of Windows 11 / Linux running on the computer, (d) totally different hinge structure. Like, it's not even good.

And for what? Including a completely wrong and fictional picture to illustrate how lighting looks in real life is just stupid. Full offense—this is moronic.

And to be clear, I don't even have anything against AI, it just makes about as much sense as looking at an AI-generated picture of yourself instead of looking in the mirror to see if you look good before leaving the house. Turn on the brain before speaking online.

Is it just me that likes keyboard backlighting cause it looks cool, but I never actually practically use it or need it? My desktop keyboard is mechanical and has no backlighting because I learned how to touch type in middle school. Do they not teach typing anymore because everyone thumb types?

I asked my coworker who’s 15 and she said she was taught a bit when she was in Grade 6 but in HS it’s a certain class you have to take. Which is wild to me, she also can’t read cursive.

I do also think that keyboard backlights look nice! It would’ve looked really cool, if backlights had matched casing colours 🙂

The lack of backlighting on the keyboard was probably the one feature that I wish the MacBook Neo did have, but at this price, I can't really complain. Thankfully I can touch type so it's not a big deal. It's just a vanity thing to have backlighting at this point.
