It's Apple's form of gentrification, make the poor get the low end model, and make the well off get the highest end model. No in betweens.
Does anyone with a 128gb phone use all that space? 64gb isn't a downgrade when you're getting the flagship phone. It's the sensible option if you don't need more than that.
I don't know, carrying around a flash drive to save 150 bucks on a $1000+ device seems pointless.Anyone thinking with going with base X for 999 and getting a lightning flash drive? I need more than 64GB but I don't need 256GB. My current 128GB 7+ is enough storage.iCloud storage is cheap but you need to be online to access it. Anyone thinking of going this route?

I use around 95 GB. I've done quite some cleanup yesterday (mostly apps) and will probably delete most of my 9000+ photos.Does anyone with a 128gb phone use all that space? 64gb isn't a downgrade when you're getting the flagship phone. It's the sensible option if you don't need more than that.
That's not true. There is zero evidence of a better managed iPhone product line up here. We have currently 8 iPhone models on sale which encompase a crazy large number of SKUs. Removing 2-3 of them is not dealing wth the issue.
This is the solution as said by Steve Jobs in 1997.
That might be a good idea.
I'm also disappointed by the fact that the X is not available in a 128 GB version. I'm currently on a 6S Plus with 128 GB which suits me just fine, capacity-wise.

Perhaps if people complain long enough Apple will introduce a 128 GB model next year... we've seen that before. Right now they want to max out on the new hype. But on the long run, they need to be able to satisfy all potential customers.
very simple answer: to pile up Apple's $ 200.000.000.000 (in reserve)
That.bums me out too. 64 is not enough but don't really need 256 either. Have the 128 7+ and it is perfect
Another “evidence” is that the iPhone 7 is still being sold but only in 32Gb and 128Gb versions, no longer offering a 256Gb version.
It’s significant because you have a combination of colors and memory sizes. Apple is always trying to fill all price points (as they did with iPods way back).
So we have:
1) two memory sizes vs 3 sizes before (in all 3 models, 7, 8, and X)
2) no product red version
3) only two colors for iPhone X (versus 4 colors when iPhone 7 launched)
But if you wanna call it “zero evidence” than it’s up to you. The amount of SKUs (if you know what it means w/o googling it) is key for inventory management.
Sure but at $999 starting price for the iPhone X, 128GB should've been base capacity.Memory storage on an iPhone is completely user dependent. I don't think there's a one size that fits all. Even if 64 GB of memory is An entry level storage, that may be more than enough for some who want to upgrade. But not everybody needs 128 GB of storage as well. I can easily survive and 32 GB of storage, but that's enough for my needs.

Completely agree. I mentioned in another thread that having 128 GB of storage would have been far more enticing as an entry-level, but it's so odd to have 64 GB or 256GB. Fairly drastic difference with no in between storage.
At least bare minimum isn't 16GB anymore. They were stuck on that for years even as run of the mill apps grew from 20-50MB to 200-500MB.Because Apple thinks you either want the bare minimum, or gobs of space.
Why is there not a 128GB option for the new X? Guessing it is to force users to spend more to go for the 256GB option? What is the Apple reason for not offering a 128GB option?
But I still think 128 should have been an option. 64 is pathetic. and 256 is unnecessary.

Guess we can agree to disagree. The number of SKU's are important for inventory management but that's not the whole picture. Also there is 5 models for sale now. (If you know the difference between SKU's and models w/o googling it)
So we have:
1) 5 models of iPhone for sale now. The most at one time in history. (SE, 6s, 7, 8, X)
2) More overall SKUs. In the past older iPhone models were discontinued. Now they are not.
3) Two new models of iPhone with all new technology announced at the same time. A first for Apple. The 5C was older hardware when it launched alongside the 5S)
