There are better headphones for the money. I have a Shure and Sennheiser headphones, and would take one of those over the Beats any day.

Beats by Dre don't raise any bar for quality in the headphone world, if anything they lower it. Their price-performance is so bad, and their build quality is so cheap. In fact one of the main reasons people like their bass 'impact' is because their flimsy frames can't even properly contain the driver's energy.

Take a forcefully agressive advertising campaign, combine it with today's ignorance in reference audio and music, add a horribly price-performance headphone, and you got a money making monster the likes of which is deliberately poor performing for the money.

That's one example of their unethical advertising campaign.

What is your source for that claim? I understand etymotics (my brand) are far better at giving the sound the engineers intended than most other headphones.

Agree. I have Ety ER*4 and I love them.

I was just parroting the claim made by a lot of headphone makers. My Dre Pro aren't bad but I got them on discount and would have never paid $400 for them.

They sound better than the Studios by a mile but they are bulky and heavy but at the least durable (a problem with this brand)

After listening to the Beats Studio's from a friend, I knew right away they were overpriced bass-heavy pieces of crap. I'm so glad I bought my Audio-Technica Pro700's. Powerful bass, but doesn't overpower the music like Beats do, and the clarity is great.

Which ones to buy?

Salutations everyone.

I'm a music lover and I listen to nearly all the genres.
I have to buy a pair of headphones that are AWESOME for everyday use; a pair which will knock me out in music for some time.
I am not a DJ. I am not a professional.
I am just a music lover.

I want exhilarating music.

Also, I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc.

Also tell me whether I will need an amplifier for them to work or not.

(P.S: I was looking forward to buying Beats Pro)

I am also a music lover, and a semi-pro, I recommend AKG, Q460's are great for every day, cheaper than the best beats but better sounding, and will work straight from your phone. For pure sonic bliss AKG Q701's but they prefer an AMP and are MASSIVE open backed headphones

Monster Is An Evil Company

This.

Long ago when I worked at Circuit City Monster had a display that they came to set up at each of the stores. It showed the "Monster Difference" between regular component cables and Monster component cables for TVs. They also made it super clear NOT to let any associate mess in the cabinet to the display.

Why you ask? Because they were straight up lying to people. The display had Monster component cables and the "other brand" they had were COMPOSITE cables!

They were showing two different cables even though the display clearly stated that one was regular component cables and the other was monster component cables.

Complete frauds.

What else is great is that Beats Audio software, when on, will keep your system at a flat EQ. If you decide to turn it off, it will lower your bass frequencies by -12db!

What a way to mislead their customers.

Very Good

Thats really good, the stornger are better. And usaualy more loudder and stonger are even more expesiver.
Peace
Burak:cool::eek:

Just throwing this out there just in case some don't know, but it's to my knowledge that Monster is no longer with Beats.

I hope Beats is replaced quick. V-Moda has been amazing in both appearance and sound. Hope they can step their game up.:)

Durability?

From what I have surveyed, most reference headphones are delicate and not suited for use outside the studio.
I have heard they have to be very carefully used in an open environment.
Why is that so?

If there is a risk of damage or breakage, I would surely choose the Beats Pro, which are much more sturdy and would not waste my money by breaking apart

Kindly reply!

I hear beats are pretty flimsy, my AKG studio headphones (Q701's) are pretty damn sturdy

Okay, after a lot of comparisons, I decided that the Denon AHD2000's are way better than the Beats Pro's.
But then I got to know about the major sound leakage that occurs while using the Denon AHD2000's. :|

I love every other bit of them, but I do not want to disturb others, in a library etc, or make them hear what Im listening to.

Advice people?

I really tried to get some Beats because I thought: hey, must be good, I see so many. I tired them inside an Apple Store in NY and: wow, what a flat sound. There was nothing exciting about the music they had and I had on my iPod touch. Was actually scared how poor the music came over.

So finally I got a pair of BW, much better choice. Happy with that; even looks better; not so heavy-looking.

"Open" headphones that leak sound in both directions will sound better for same price "closed" headphones. The reason is that is is easier to make "open" ones. The open type do not have to compress the air inside the ear cups.

Open heaphones are make for use in quite locations like studios where engineers mix music and edit video. They work in living rooms too.

When you buy headphones READ the description to see which type you are buying

Thanks a lot for that info, but I would prefer closed headphones.
Do you know of any awesome closed pair of cans comparable or better than Denon AHD2000's?

Closed headphones don't necessarily sound worse as a rule, I think it's just that headphone manufactures are too lazy to go through the timely process of properly damping a closed headphone through trial and error measurements.

Look at the mad dog by mr speakers-- a DIY modified fostex t50rp. It's very cheap and offers performance rivaling 1000 dollar planar magnetics.

The only thing worse than buying something because everyone else has it is NOT buying something because everyone else has it. I am not going to let trends dictate what I will and will not buy. If tomorrow Britney spears puts out the most amazing album I have ever heard I will be the first one in line. Denying yourself the option of trying something because it's "trendy" is the biggest sell out of all.

You're right, you shouldn't avoid something just because it's trendy. The point I was trying to make was that most people buy them because they are trendy and avoid even considering other headphones.

After about 11 or 12 months of use I had a problem with my beats (the build quality is damn poor in regards to the plastic head-band area). I called them up and had a brand new pair at my doorstep in under a week. While I can't remember anything spectacular about their customer service, I also can't think of any problems I had either. I emailed them my receipt and shipped them my broken ones, they sent me back a brand new pair a few days later. Works for me.
Glad to hear you had a better experience with their customer support. The last time I contacted them was about two years ago and ever since then I've avoided them and just contacted the store who were much less hassle.

A product like the Beats line of headphones doesn't sell millions of units just by being a horrible product. They introduced a higher level of quality than most people were used to in a stylish form to people who had previously only owned the free white earbuds apple hands out with its iPod line. While they couldn't compete with quality reference sounds they raised the bar considerably for non-audophiles who were looking for something that sounded good and looked good. I can say without a doubt that when released I thought the beats were a good looking pair of headphones and when I listened to an old song through them for the first time I had never heard anything that crisp and clear before.
You're right they didn't sell millions just by being a horrible product, they sold it through their very effective marketing campaign. Raising the bar from the included Apple earphones isn't much of an achievement, someone once joked that the Apple earphones are included just to test if your iPhone/iPod actually works, not to listen to music with.

Also, you used the Studios which I've heard are a lot better than their Solo HDs and earphones but even they are overpriced and have fundamental flaws (you can't listen to any music without batteries).

I see so many people with these headphones nowadays. I tried all three of them and I thought they were ok. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I don't see how these headphones would be worth the money that they are. Having said that, they do look like really nice, and the fact that you can choose the different colors is what attracts the basic consumer. For now, I'll just stick to my white Apple earphones. Nothing fancy, but it's all that I really need. :D
