I had to giggle at comments in this thread :D

And perhaps now may be a interesting time to bump this thread back into life and review the comments back when the thread was started, against what's just happened.

Just reading the 1st page of this thread and comments there. How things change huh?

Which things that have changed are you referring to?

Well it's good to see they want to expand their Pro Audio line. :D

I don't know what they're up to, but it gives me the willies/

They're owned by Apple now. Therefore "they just work" and "the build quality is fantastic" and "I don't mind paying premium prices for premium products" and "You won't be satisfied with [insert better quality equipment here] after trying Beats"

Ouch. This may be a little too close to the bone for comfort, but nicely phrased.

It will be interesting to see whether the association with Apple improves the Beats product (I don't doubt that Apple will benefit from the arrangement).

Myself, I have long thought that Beats represented an example of the utter triumph of marketing hype over mundane reality; indeed, for self-styled audiophiles, there are far better headphones available. Some of the better companies producing headphones include Shure, some of the Sennheiser products, Audio Technica, Grado, my own favourites Bowers & Wilkins, and even the venerable Marshall company are making a comeback, and so on…..

Yes but,

"You're not paying for the sound quality, you're paying for the build quality"

"Sennheisers will fall apart in a year. My Beats are still going strong!"

"Beats offers full compatibility with the Apple ecosystem"

"I can't quite describe it, but Beats just seems to work better with my iPhone than any other brand"

"Yes, they're $170 more expensive than headphones with equal or superior quality, but you get what you pay for"

Again, ouch. But good.

Actually, I suspect that you must be consulting a crystal ball, so accurate does your forecast sound……

Worse, I am wincing in appalled horror reading your post - not so much at you are (accurately) predicting, but at the dreadful suspicion that all of what you have written will come to pass in its depressing, dreadful, unimaginative, unthinking, uncritical, utterly predictable …….reality.

Well, I have long thought that the adulation accorded Beats represents to me a triumph - a complete triumph, - of the power and expression and persuasiveness of marketing over what a pair of ears will tell you sounds good…...

I still dont think that Dre is very good, even if apple owns them. I like my crappy headphones that came with an mp3 player I had six years ago. Best headphones ever.

Who exactly said this? Besides your straw men of course...

Can't you just hear the narrator's voice for a movie preview?

"When a logical fallacy just got too out of hand............ one straw man decided to make a difference. He single-handedly build the biggest and baddest false dichotomy that mankind has ever seen. And it is up to the apple fanboys of America to save their IOS with only non sequiturs and bludgeoning the opponents with ad hominem attacks... Coming to a theater near you"

Remember, just because Apple owns them (or will own them? Not sure) doesn't mean that anything will change in regards to the quality of the headphones or their branding or their design etc.

I imagine Apple simply bought it with an aim to take over their streaming service.

Regarding headphones, Beyerdynamic DT770s are fantastic.

Canada thanks. Other than that: A-

Ah, let's just expand to make it the whole world. Sorry, I'm from America (the capitol) and I'm used to our media suggesting americans being under attack from everything- terrorists, communists, everything. I tend to victimize the citizens because communally we view ourselves as slaves to the american system. As immature and incorrect as that is :p

lol, i like beats because their beats, i like their design and i love the way my beat pros produce so much bass without distortion.

I really dont give a crap, if "OH THIS CHEAPER HEADPHONE COSTS LESS BUT SO MUCH BETTER"

it aint beats, so whats my incentive to buy it? if there were no beats i probably would, but there is and they look dope.

its the same thing, you can buy the same/similar designed shirt in a swap meet/department store/outlet, but if its from the burberry its $235. Does the burberry shirt keep you warmer? does it keep you cool when its too hot? is it indestructible compared to the ones from the department store?

if you argue about beats, might as well argue anything thats overpriced because of branding.

and kudos to dre, whatever the fall out with monster was, he got the vendors/factories and made it on his own.

but cmon dude, you guys do all know it wasn't for the headphones, it was for the BEATS APP, that apple wanted to purchase because Dre got a GREAT deal (whatever cents per song) with the artists. they wanted to do something about their drop in iTunes sales because of apps like the beat app and pandora.

you guys have to be ridiculous if you guys think apple bought them just because of the headphones.

I'm not sure which aspect debunks your argument more: My inability to understand your lack of grammar, or your argument itself: buying brand name BECAUSE it is a brand name.

In regards to the grammar, whatever. It just makes it difficult to understand your argument.

In regards to the Beats brand, are you advocating the use of a ubiquitous set of headphones because of their name? I understand that Beats delivers a quality that obviously suits your aesthetic, and there is no issue with that. User interface is the most important aspect of any product. But your idolization of Beats' solipsistic business is a no less than worrisome.

I suppose what I am trying to say is that it pays to be open-minded because sometimes there are better products available that are not the leader. Beats by Dre is a huge figurehead in the headphones market, and they capitalize on their brand name. Basically, it is "cool" to have them. Many technology companies campaign to have the attention of the youth, as teens typically have the least bills and the most money to throw around. Just be aware of that. There are other products out there that do not have the limelight like Beats. Don't shut them out because of their current lack of popularity.

Welcome to the family, little Solos.

Beats fit the Apple ecosystem nicely. They're overpriced compared to similar performance that you you can get from another brand because of the name on them. :D

From this thread, they remind me of the Icon motorcycle clothing brand. It's first and foremost a fashion brand that goes with form over funtion. Their jackets, helmets, and gloves (metal plated knuckles? Really?) are over the top and scream look at me but their quality doesn't hold up to brands like Dianese and Arai that have proven themselves through multiple racing tours time and time again. But your average rider that will never see the track wants something cool, so they go out and spend extra money on an inferior product so that when they see another Icon buddy, they can nod at each other in recognition of how cool they are.

With that being said, I believe Icon's quality has improved since it's inception, so hopefully Beats will too. With the new headphones supposedly offering less base and better dynamic range, it's a step in the right direction.

I'm not much of a headphone guy though. I own Yamaha earbuds and Steel Series and Turtle Beach gaming headphones. I've never really had a need for them when listening to music or anything else and when I'm on the go, I need portability over quality.

I am perpetually amused by people who admit readily to having little to no experience in a field who still feel more than qualified to make declarations about it.

I think you will find this to be a common experience across every field of endeavour in the internet age; ignorance is no bar to active and enthusiastic participation, and the anonymity afforded by a nom-de-plume adds an extra layer of breezy confidence in some of these declarations of boundless certainty…..

I bet they would. Do you lose any quality when you use the bluetooth? I feel like you would..

If they support AAC, their is no loss, no transcoding.

And the question is, what's better, the headphone DAC or or the iPhone's.

I'm perpetually amused by people who readily jumped to conclusions based on what they feel fits their arguement. Do you have any idea what I mean by I'm not much of a headphone guy? I mean I'd prefer to use actual speakers to listen to my music vs. a pair of headphones on my ears. I was a partner in a recording studio for a couple years and recorded multiple artists and groups. I've been in bands as well as ran live sound for many different bands and one of my pet peeves is when you have certain instruments overpowering others and putting things out of balance. 80's music is generally terrible for this, they might as well as just not plugged most of the bass players in in that era and just had them standing there to round out the band.

Just because I'm not much of a headphone guy doesn't mean that I don't know about sound quality and makes you look foolish by assuming just that.
