Will you forget you bought a Mac, or will it anger you you won't be able to brag you bought Apple without having to prove it because there is no vanity logo?
For some people it could be a real bugbear. I wouldn't say it's OCD but the fact that I have a Mac mini, a BenQ monitor, Microsoft keyboard and a Logitech mouse and speakers does actually cause me some level of anxiety. I guess that changing the design of the iMac is just one of those things that can cause varying levels of anxiety to some people - not to mention those who just think that it seems like an awful lot of negative space just sitting there.

It's a little bit like the issue some people had with the iPhone 11 Pro, Mac Pro and XDR Display. I believe those who suffered from Trypophobia said it was un-nerving.

Then again I also remember being bothered when my partner got a new MacBook Air and the apple logo didn't light up like my old MacBook Pro

I get that a lot of people around here don't like Apple change.I can see getting upset over something important. The lack of a logo on the front doesn't strike me as falling into that category. I think a lot of it is vanity based. And if someone needs a lot of electronic vanity in their life to feel valued or important, I think life is getting way out of focus.

I agree. I know that getting anxious about mis-matched peripherals is stupid. However, just because I know it's not important doesn't mean it doesn't feel important.

I also feel that there is usually a level of vanity in every purchase. My first Mac was a G5 iMac. A large portion of my choice to get that Mac was because of it's design. I doubt I would have purchase a Mac way back in ~2004 had it been in a beige box. The vanity wasn't so I could show off to my friends, but just as much for myself.

Having a modern (for the time) looking machine did actually inspire me to be more creative. For many people owning an Apple product is an aspirational purchase, whether or not they do follow through on that aspiration.

Ultimately there's not only more important things going on in the world at the moment, but there's likely more important things in your world too. Then again perhaps we do need something frivolous to take our minds off of everything else.

I agree that having a small distraction at times can be mentally beneficial.

At least you replied honesty. I give you credit for that.
Apple have always been a prestigious make and the badge is iconic , why hide it ?

Jony Ive obviously wasn’t involved in the design of this monstrosity , it’s like a fisher price Barbie toy , no wonder pc users laugh at macs , the things embarrassing 😳

In 2021, if people who use non-Mac computers are going to laugh at purchasers of new Apple products, they’re going to be laughing at the lunacy of buying hardware which is completely non-upgradeable, completely disposable, and completely locked into a closed ecosystem which shuns the rest of the computing world.

And I say this as the present owner of nine Macs and zero non-Macs.

Creating a thread complaining about the lack of a logo was really a ruse so you could really point out what you did with this post.

Since you don't like the design, it shouldn't be affecting your life. Unfortunately, it is appears that it is doing just that. Apple has plenty of other Macs that may be to your liking or, you can wait and see what WWDC reveals.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's embarrassing. It's a computer I'd certainly like to be able to have in my son's room for home work and entertainment, or even to use myself (if the screen was larger), I think that we just hold Apple to a high standard - perhaps sometimes too high.

I mean if you compare it to some of the other £1300 all-in-ones you can pick up from your local electronics stores, the design isn't definitively worse than any of them.

I'm doubt that Dell, HP or Lenovo haven't got as much criticism for these designs than Apple has for their's?

I was simply pointing out how odd it was that apple didn’t put the logo on the front . Since it’s been on every iMac ever made ...

Don’t read anything else into it , it’s not affecting my life 😂, I just find it an odd design decision

There's nothing wrong with voicing opinions... isn't that what the internet is for :p?
So long as it's polite that is!

Although I must admit, as time is going on I'm liking the new design more and more. I'd still prefer a thicker design and the speakers, fans and motherboard be at the back rather than the front but they have to keep something back for future redesigns don't they 😜?

Of those 3 the h p looks like what I would expect from apple . Clean , simple and classy

Oh and they all put the logo in the front ...! Could this iMac be a production mistake ?

Perhaps they had issues putting a logo on the thin casing ?

Who even are you, @George Dawes , if you don’t lack corporate branding which you can sport prominently to both yourself and to others?

I don't see what issue they would have putting a logo on the front. Especially since the front is a solid piece of glass, surely they could etch it into the glass like they do with iPhones? I would imagine it was part of a push to be a little bit more 'minimal' than the previous generations of iMacs.

Perhaps they could of gone the iMac G3 route and just had the words 'iMac' on the front instead. If I remember correctly my iMac G5 didn't have the Apple logo on the rear and instead had the words 'iMac'. I personally thought that was pretty cool.

Once again bing image search comes to the rescue (yeah, I'm that guy, don't judge me!)

Yes that would be good , anything but that blank chin . I can see this one going down as one of apples worst designs ever .
iMac on the front in very subtle lettering , the rear is so OTT in comparison

I like how over the top the back is, I just wish some of that had creeped around the font. I have a red iPhone and when I take it out of the case every few months I'm still blown away with the colour. Unfortunately, I only ever see it from the front where it looks like every other modern style iPhone.

If I was critiquing the design I'd say we need more I/O and perhaps height adjustable stand (even if it was an additional option). I mean, £1300 for a machine with a headphone jack and 2x USB/TB ports is awful. I thought my Mac mini was bad, but at least I get 2x USB-A, ethernet and HDMI connections on top.

No argument here.
However, just because I know it's not important doesn't mean it doesn't feel important.
Understandable.

There is but a consumer also must prioritize usage over vanity. Pretty doesn't get the job done.

That's pretty sad. At the end of the day the product is a tool. If the MacOS and applications aren't enough to get you to buy then you bought the wrong computer because it's just plain silly to buy something just to look at. If that's your thing then you're wasting your money. Apple's products look good but even Apple doesn't want you to buy just for looks alone, that's why they put their heart & soul into MacOS.
Having a modern (for the time) looking machine did actually inspire me to be more creative.
Did it truly? I mean, honestly?

Are you suggesting that buying the new iMac is a frivolous purchase?

LMAO! Same thing that is said about so many Apple designs that end up being Apple's biggest sellers.
