I agree. I know that getting anxious about mis-matched peripherals is stupid. However, just because I know it's not important doesn't mean it doesn't feel important.
I also feel that there is usually a level of vanity in every purchase. My first Mac was a G5 iMac. A large portion of my choice to get that Mac was because of it's design. I doubt I would have purchase a Mac way back in ~2004 had it been in a beige box. The vanity wasn't so I could show off to my friends, but just as much for myself.
Having a modern (for the time) looking machine did actually inspire me to be more creative. For many people owning an Apple product is an aspirational purchase, whether or not they do follow through on that aspiration.
Ultimately there's not only more important things going on in the world at the moment, but there's likely more important things in your world too. Then again perhaps we do need something frivolous to take our minds off of everything else.
