They can't tell what you are interested in unless they make you click the pictures. They are trying to sell you for advertising. if you happen to like to use it with your friends is incidental. Imagine they are trying to get you to see the most amount of advertising and the most likely stuff you'd want to buy, then all these changes make sense.

Until they piss off their user base and they switch to third party apps

Until they piss off their user base and they switch to third party apps

Casual users of Twitter, such as myself and many people I know, don't care enough to bother downloading third party apps. The official Twitter app does all I need. I highly doubt Twitter is too concerned about that.

Hard core twitter users are not the target demographic. They want people to accidentaly click on ads in the app. making it difficult to tell what your friends post and what is an ad is part of the end game.

That actually makes me feel better in some regards. Knowing there is a reason for it, however greedy and unethical it might be.

It's basically just because Twitter have an awful design team.

Have you noticed when you open the app it's always in the Messages tab by default?? Wtf? People open it almost exclusively to look at their timeline!!

It always opens to the timeline for me. Perhaps you leave it at messages when you close, or you accidentally tap messages as you open? It seems to open to whatever tab you were last on. If you were last on timeline, it will open there, if you were last on messages, it will open there.

My fiancee has it on her phone too and it always opens up to timeline.

Hmm maybe I am hitting "messages" accidentally when I close it.

Facebook also gets worse with every update. I'm seriously becoming wary of 'updates' now, because they are usually a crock.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. Weather Channel is another recent example, their latest redesign is awful.
