I am looking towards Dell and Acer now.

If it fits your budget...look no further Roba...Samsung 21" is the way to go...

Around 500 US$.

Quote from the reviewer:
"The SyncMaster 215TW may sport the same resolution as standard 20in widescreen monitors, but it outguns the competition in pretty much every area. The amount of inputs on offer is unprecedented and gives you the option of connecting gaming consoles and AV devices as well as PCs. The image quality is good and the range of stand adjustments is very welcome. Rounding off the impressive feature list is HDCP compliance, adding future proofing peace of mind for the buyer. The 215TW doesn’t come cheap, but if I was looking for a 1,680 x 1,050 display, this is the one I’d buy."

it makes no sense to get an ACD when dell's are much cheaper, offer a better warranty, and have more inputs/features.

Maybe we should just boycott ACDs untill Apple sees this disapointment in both features and pricing and acts more like Apple! The good old Apple weve knew in the past! Apple dont treat your customers like PC customer. Show u care! Im serious!

Thanks for that link. They do look pretty impressive. I already own a 19 inch Samsung 940MW but i intend to move it to another room and just get a monitor without the tv tuner this time round. I needed one with integrated speakers that are discreet or with a soundbar instead and i wanted it to have a resolution of at least 1440x900 so that it can match my MBP at least. I wanted one also with a fairly small/small bezel as well this time round.
I intended just to link my satellite box up so that i can watch TV on it and use it to hook my laptop up sometimes also. I thought that VGA was scart for some reason but after just taking a look at the back of one Dell today on their site i see that would not be right for me either. I need to either replace my satellite box which only has scart and RS32 inputs with a more modern one that has at least a S-video input or just re-think my plans entirely. Thanks for your help maybe if i upgrade my satellite box then that will be an option for me.

Edit- Part of my problem has been solved now. I will be getting myself a scart to S-Video and composite convertor instead of having to upgrade my box. I just have to find the right monitor for me now.

We don't have one in Denmark either but you don't hear us break tears because of it...
Grow a backbone and accept the fact that Apple isn't represented in Greece.
You are a joke man, just read the site more carefully, its not about wining!
How old are u? 9?

So where is the SWOP certification? If those monitors had that, they wouldn't have to mention all these interesting technologies.
There really isn't such a thing as a SWOP certified monitor, Apple marketspeak aside. There is SWOP-certified proofing software, and the monitors used by individual software developers are what get included in the certification.

FWIW, there are numerous SWOP-certified systems using Eizo displays.

No new SWOP certifications have issued in some time because the standards are in the process of being changed. Scheduled recertifications are also on hold, so that older systems that have since been revised (such as the Apple displays with Matchprint) only remain certified on a rules technicalilty.

You guys don't understand, it's all about the OS!!!

That's why ACD's cost more, you're getting the benefits of the Macintosh Operating System, way better than Winblows!!!

Um, NO.

And thats a big, big NO.

Its about colour accuracy.

Everything else is subjective to the buyer as to weather they place a value over attractive design and FireWire hubs and lack of clutter etc.

I am cheap, so I bought a 20" Sceptre x20 monitor for $229 (20 inch widescreen)

Now that I have a silver MacBook Pro, new Shuffle, and wireless keyboard and mouse, all with the nice apple symbol...I regret getting it, and I'll probably get a Cinema Display in the future

:)

Sorry guys, I was being facetious with my comments about OS....

Overall, it does seem to me that there is not too much benefit to buying an ACD over other monitors, given the price difference (as long as one carefully researches all the alternatives.) Especially since all these various labels are buying LCD panels from the same manufacturers.

If I was buying a 30" LCD (which I'm not), I'd probably just buy from whomever/wherever had the best dead pixel exchange policy.

with my dell 2405FPW 24", i used it for 6 months before it died suddenly after a power failure. i went online with dell's chat at 5pm est, and they overnighted me a new one that arrived at 9am the next morning - no questions asked, and took 10 mins. would apple do that? ;)
