They have a collection of very different watches but 9 out of 10 times you don't get to choose your strap. The watch case and strap are mostly designed together and only in a few cases do they have more option (usually no more than 3 to 5). Watch lovers end up buying their own set of straps anyway. Are you new to the watch world because most watch manufacturers have 8384929+ different combos?
It also makes the watch completely useless and only leads to lots of angry customers because they not only had to spend money on the watch, they also had to spend money on a strap. It is the main reason why people are so angry about aviation, you have to pay for almost everything separately which means that you always go far over budget. There is a very good reason why most countries are trying to get rid of the misleading pricing.Yeah, but because the Apple bands are so easy to fit, there's no need to sell them pre-attached. (Other than for gift-giving, where it's nicer to have everything in one box - rather than a kit of parts)
That's what I am hoping when I go to the store to buy the aluminum silver with a black band.Apple may be able to switch out the band for you at purchase. I bought my AW SS that came with a white band, but I wanted a black band. I told them about my predicament, and they said that they'd be happy to switch out the bands at purchase. So now I have the original box that says my watch came with a white band, but do not have the white band.
Yup.Buy a normal watch and *boom* you run into the same thing.
Hi,
so -- if I want to buy a 42mm with the silver aluminum case and a sports strap in any other color but white, I need to buy a second strap, correct? Does this mean there will be hundreds of white straps ending up on ebay? And, wouldn't it then make much more sense to buy the Nike Edition, in one of the two options for the silver body, and sell THAT strap on ebay, because you cannot buy it separately anywhere else?

Thanks everyone for confirming my little theory there!I will order the Nike Edition and then either use the Nike band for workout or sell it and get a different one. The only drawback is that I will have to wait a tiny bit longer for the Nike Edition to hit markets, but I prefer this to having a useless white band, literally, on hand ...
There will be people who actually like the white strap, there will be people who like a rubber strap they can use for swimming/sports and there will be people who really don't care at all. White is a very neutral colour that you can combine with other colours quite easily. Quite possible that some people end up keeping the strap because of that. Thus I highly doubt you're going to find hundreds of white straps on eBay.Hi,

Hard to say, it depends on how popular this strap is. Could be that the white one is more popular. And, wouldn't it then make much more sense to buy the Nike Edition, in one of the two options for the silver body, and sell THAT strap on ebay, because you cannot buy it separately anywhere else?
If you have an apple store close by, you can mix and match all the band configurations. They have drawers setup with multiple bands on multiple watches. They are more then happy to switch them around for you. That is what I did.
Yup. Some people think it's cool, but it just looks mismatched to me.Did you think a black case looks like silly with a regular stainless steel band?

Not that much longer, the other version arent shipping until middle October now if you preorder on Apples site. Only a few weeks difference (if the Nike is actually released when it states, since its a bit vague)

Yes and if you don't want a sports band but a nice canvas strap you need to source it elsewhere because Apple doesn't offer one. Same for various other kinds of straps. Also, the 3rd party straps can be a lot cheaper than Apple ones. The strap that already came with the watch is free, you can sell it if you want or keep it as a backup or do something else with it. However, it is not a strap you can simply sell because you need to take into account that these can be purchased brand new from Apple and there are 3rd party straps that are cheaper. It is far more likely you are going to have to sell the strap for a lot less so keep that in mind when doing the math.I am not suggesting no one will like the white strap. It's just that when the watch first came out, you could actually choose between several sports band colors. Now, if you want a black, blue, red, yellow, grey etc. band with your watch, you have to first buy something else (the white sports, the silver nylon or the Nike). And then once you did that, you either keep it, or sell it.
What you are describing here only works for collectors, not the general public. If the general public is going to buy something it has to work they way they want it and look pretty. If the general public finds this band to be ugly then the only audience you have left are the collectors which is a very small audience. In that case selling the band you cannot buy elsewhere is going to be a challenge. Just take a look at cars. There are certain times where a white car is very popular and there are times when no one wants to be seen with a white car... and if you do want to sell, then I am pretty sure that the most popular one on ebay will be the one that you cannot buy elsewhere AND the one that has only just come out. And that's the Nike.
No, I just would like to choose the band I like. For example I like the silver aluminum with the black sport band. That's not available since it is not preconfigured.Eventually you'd think they'd just sell the watch by itself so you can reuse the bands you already have.
I'm holding out for the Silver Nike Watch because I don't like the band that comes with it otherwise.
