Maybe true for office, but not for windows. I don't want to say MS takes a blind eye but given how they force the online account and telemetry, they largely let anyone install windows because they know their data, and information will be broadcasted to the mothership
I'm a drop in the bucket, but my subscription will not auto-renew when it expires. MS will not be getting any more money out of me. I found for a time, having an office sub made sense, but that day has long passed and only inertia was keeping me paying. That has since changed
Yeah I am using Windows 11 and not Mac at this point, but you are not wrong. In an alternate reality, I am using my awesome Windows Phone Zune edition and watching movies and music from the Movies and TV app.
I'm mostly back to using my desktop with cachyos on it. My studio, while still be used, has been relegated to a secondary device. I was able to get a KVM that was compatible to windows (my work laptop), MacOS and Linux. Oddly, the prior KVMs that I bought and returned had issues with linux or macos. I finally found one where all three platforms work

The problem with applying that elbow grease is that an update can undo all of that work. MS has a habit of reinstalling items, services, components that were removed during a debloating process. Then there's the direction of MS trying to make windows an agentic operating system,so seeing recall being everywhere is just the beginning, though Apple could be headed in that direction as well
You are correct, every update Freakin business facebook shows up magically on both my systems. Uninstall and poof it's there again within a day. I have to physically install from the MS store, then un install. It goes away until the next update.
Yeah I completely disagree. With the '26 updates all my Apple devices just....feel worse. And in addition, I got so tired of iPadOS not working like I want it to that my Surface Pro 9 feels superior. That said, most of that issue is "Return to Office" and I like having a full PC with me at the office that isn't my work laptop.
It's a combination of things. Apple has just gotten very greedy with subscriptions and the like - iWork being the latest example. If I don't need anything but Pixelmator, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, then the subscription price is WAY too high. These are not MS Office equivalents. They were great when included as a free substitute. Also, look at iCloud Drive pricing. Way too much. Siri is really bad when compared to Google's equivalent. I mean just ask an android user to do something like, "find my photos from the 'x' project last summer," and it will open the photos app equivalent and go straight to them. And finally, just the crap that is all the '26 OS releases.

It was macOS that killed Linux for me, once I discovered Macs, I never touched Linux again. Too much effort to get simple things working, and it was fun to muck about with when I wanted to use a computer, but when I wanted to use a computer to do something, I'd have to reboot back into Windows.
I would have liked Pixelmator, but with the infrequency of my needing it, Affinity is my choice. Even before Creative Cloud, it cost too much for me.
Yeah, My son has a MSI cyborg she's a chonky little beast. I want a 14 inch slim notebook with touchscreen and good graphics power. I think the Dell plus 14 2 in 1 is probably my only choice with decent specs and not mentally expensive. I think I have my mind made up that I won't go to macbook right now.
Yes, As I mentioned before, losing half a trillion dollars in a one week span will make you look at things. As I also mentioned, I think Satya has now been given a hands OFF order for products and services. THANKFULLY. Too late to save the windows mobile platform, lumia, zune, MS band, groove music, the awesome duo and NEO that was supposed to reshape windows, ETC, ETC, ETC. He's did some good for MS on the money front, but when you piss off your customers long enough, it's time to change direction.
Who knew that having Ai code your operating system would create loads of crap. They are adding more real people back into the mix. The message has been received loud and clear with that nosedive. They are even looking at cutting the Game Pass costs too. ha ha.
