everyone at my work hates apple beside a few people. I asked them why.

Famous reasons.

iTunes sucks (asked them if they ever used it, they said no)

ios is not open source.

apple gathers more info than google

They hate them because they sell products so well.

There you have it, all of these people hate the iphone even though they never used one. Funny thing is they like their ipads lol.

"The rest of us" referred to people who weren't computer programmers or super tech savvy, not to levels of income. They've always been on the expensive side.

Might want to take a closer look at their marketing throughout the company's history, and as to price, the overall cost of owning a Mac has been consistently lower even though the buy-in cost has been higher.

Samsung = bigger phones and the precursors to Apple pay.

And pray tell, how many people area actually using that precursor to Apple Pay? Samsung has already gone back to square one and partnered with PayPal, pretty much acknowledging that their pre-existing project did not get the uptake it needed to be sustainable without help.

Without the Note, we might still all be using 3.5 inch screens, (although if Samsung didn't increase phones sizes somebody else surely would have eventually).

I won't disagree: If it weren't for Samsung, we wouldn't be in a world where having phones too big for one's pockets is considered acceptable, and the needs of people (women, children, guys with smaller hands or just a preference for smaller screens?) are completely ignored.

Microsoft -well, they're trying to an extent with their Surface Pro's - the tablet/laptop hybrids that go beyond mere netbooks.

....And Windows 10 is gigantic backtrack from that.

Apple seems to agree this new formfactor is viable, hence the iPad Pro.

The iPad Pro is vaporware, based on a rumor from a supplier that may or may not have been manufacturing high res 12 inch displays for Apple. It's very possible that those 12 inch displays are going towards a 12-inch retina MacBook Air, which is also a rumor at this point.

While Sony hasn't introduced anything revolutionary

Yup. Next.

And in all this time, Apple's made a bigger iPhone. And a fingerprint reader that justifies the continued use of the home button and their monster bezels...

So basically, you've chosen to willfully ignore what Apple's been doing in this time: A laptop that gets more battery life than anything else on the market. The creation of a mainstream tablet market, on which the Surface and Android tablets wouldn't have materialized without. The ability to handoff tasks, phone calls, SMS conversations from my iPhone to my Mac to my iPad. Multi-device video conferencing that actually works. Instant messaging that isn't bulky, ties in my with phone number without requiring a new ID to track, is multi-modal and multi-device friendly, and falls back seamlessly with SMS.

To me, these are useful innovations. Maybe they're not splashy enough to you, because they don't fit neatly on a spec sheet. But that's fine. As I said before: why be MAD at Apple, when in your opinion, Samsung is taking on the mantle for what YOU think is innovation? If that's the case, then don't be mad... be happy that Samsung is supposedly going to leave Apple in the dust.

I am slightly curious to know what products where the iPhone kind or the iPad kind before they came out? And surly home you don't mean concepts/mock ups and such but you mean an actual smartphone or tablet with multi touch screen and OS optimised for multi touch interface.

Yes, I know mp3 players existed before iPad and lots of smart watches before the :apple: Watch.

I was getting at how the iPhone wasn't the first smartphone nor the iPad the first tablet, but yet they still revolutionized their respective product categories.

- The more "closed" approach that Apple has. That can make some techy users feel limited and frustrated.

I understand this for iOS devices. Though not he mac side the "closed" idea is a bit overblown. I can do a lot of powerful, UNIXy things with a Mac that maybe Steve Jobs would've rather his users not do. But he's dead now, so I win. :)

- The level of confidence and a feeling of "ego" in Apple's presentations and overall presentation of themselves as a company

When people say that, I tell them that I'll take Apple's attitude at presentations over this:

That's worse than arrogance... that's arrogance AND missing the mark, completely.

Or Microsoft. Would you prefer this:

i was an apple hater the reason was PURELY JEALOUSY.the hate was strong.i posted on another post about this.samsung galaxy was my refuge it was alot cheaper than the real smartphone (iphone),the hate is gone apparently when you finally owning an iphone.

Odd though considering that Apple started out as "the computer for the rest of us."

Yeah Apple is now kind of the rich person's computer.

I'm actually pretty poor right now (new small business, still finding my feet, etc), but I only use an old-ish iPhone anyway. I don't care about having the latest tech as long as it works well.

I use Windows on my PC and laptop, mainly because I like to play games.

I think I prefer OSX Yosemite, but as I build PCs and stuff mainly for gaming, it wouldn't really make sense to use an OS that doesn't play as many of them. Plus Win 7 is alright :)

Free speech is free speech there are no ifs or buts, you can't replace parenting with laws, I won't give up all of my rights to live in a country that's equal to a prison.

Here is the key difference: free speech is not the same as anonymous speech.

You are free to say whatever you want, but there may be consequences. Giving everyone anonymity is not always a good idea.

now my wish is that samsung fan will create a website like macrumors but for samsungfan,so they dont need to come here anymore they should talk about their hate together with their likes in a closed door and have fun with that.

I'd be interested to know more. As far as I know, that slogan never had anything to do with price.

The overall cost of owning a Mac has been consistently lower even though the buy-in cost has been higher.

Oh, I agree with you there completely.

I'd be interested to know more. As far as I know, that slogan never had anything to do with price.

It was (and has) to do with accessibility. The idea being that everyone should have the tools to do great things. As Steve Jobs once said (more or less) the question won't be "can you do that?" the question will be "what are you going to do?"

Okay, but the way this came up was someone saying how Apple no longer made the "computer for the rest of us" because they were so expensive. But if you look back at the time when they used that slogan, Macs were really pretty expensive (leaving aside the question of whether they were worth it or not). The original Mac cost $2,495 in 1984, which is over $5,000 in today's dollars. It was the computer for people who might have wanted to learn command lines or whatever, but not the computer for the poor (not that there was one at the time).

I think you could argue that things like the iPad and the iPhone (and smartphones in general) are actually the embodiment of the "computer for the rest of us" idea more than actual computers are, since everyone now seems to have one and can use it to some degree. That was definitely not true of computers for a long time, maybe ever.

It's scraping the barrel when people have to dig up Apple's marketing campaigns from the 1980's in order to justify their hate in 2014! You've had plenty of years to save for goodness sake lol

I've been reading and contributing to this thread from the very start. The fact that particular subject was even brought up suggests the intent to undermine the current day strategies is very present. My comment was concerning the last couple of pages, maybe you should read the thread.

When faced with something new people make an emotional judgment regarding whether or not they are going to like it or not. First comes the "yuck/yum" response, then only later comes the rationalizing to support the initial feeling. After learning about this, I really started examining my own feeling and opinions on things. For example, I do not like the self-checkout lanes at the grocery store. While I can rationalize why I don't like them, the reality is my actual hands-on experience is practically zero. I think the same psychologic process happens with "Apple Haters"- an initial emotional reaction with post hoc rationalization.

I've never hated Apple, it's a computer and post pc manufacturing company, why would I hate it? But as an iphone user, I did for a while get annoyed at it. It was about this time last year that I got annoyed. I got annoyed at the fact that 64g was still the maximum storage space with the 5S. Was annoyed because I was almost at capacity and if I was going to lock myself into a 5S for 2 years when I was nearly at capacity, I didn't see the point. So I thought I would jump to android, in particular the Samsung Note 3. I was going to immerse myself in the new experience. I watched hours of reviews, tips and tricks, comparison battles on youtube and I was convinced that the Note 3 was the king of the smartphone/phablet market. I tested them in the stores and was impressed at what they could do.

So I locked myself in to a new 2 year contract with my new Note 3.

It started off great. New screen size, brand new phone feeling, new touchwiz, everything was great. My new toy. This lasted for about 3 days and then reality started to sink in.

Google Playstore - absolute bollocks. Sure it has all the popular apps like angry birds, candy crush etc etc. But it's those not so popular apps that make the iTunes store the best app market on the planet. I'm going to put it as honestly as I possibly can...once you look past the popular mainstream apps, the Google playstore is *****.

Camera - totally rubbish in very light or very dark conditions. And if you live in Australia like me, good luck turning the shudder off, you can't if you're with Optus. So no selfies if you're out in public. Whenever you take a photo, it makes the loudest double click noise you've ever heard. Samsung bowing to the wants of Optus.

Malware - The Note 3 would alert me that a particular app was trying to do some sort of dodgy stuff to the device. WTF.

Bloatware - the device came preinstalled with Optus crap that I could not get rid of. Again, Samsung bending over for Optus.

Facebook - the device came installed with a Facebook app, but once in that app, it recommends you get the Facebook app for android...WTF...so you follow the advice of the phone and you end up with two Facebook apps on the one device...totally WTF. Seriously? I mean seriously?

The alarm - what I rely on to wake myself up in the morning. 3 days a week it worked fine, on two random days a week it would beep for literally one second and switch off, a one syllable beep, the Note 3 alarm. Random random random, welcome to Samsung.

Data hungry - I got an sms from Optus saying that I was nearly at my 2 gig data limit after just 2 weeks. I have wifi at home and rarely use my device when I'm at work. The Note 3, or the apps on the Note 3, were sucking 200mbs a day on my data plan, and this factors in that I have wifi at home, again, WTF. I ended up deleting most of my apps and still it was chewing data like no tomorrow.

Music player - plain and simply, it would jump, randomly, from one song to the next, before the song was finished. Sometimes it wouldn't, but sometimes it would. Again, random random random.

Photos - took some photos with my disused 4S because as said above, the Note 3 camera sucked. Uploaded the photos onto my pc and from my pc I uploaded them onto the Note 3. The photos I uploaded onto the Note 3 overwrote all my other photos on my Note 3. So the new photos replaced my existing photos. To this day I have never been able to recover my old photos, mainly of my kids at one of their birthday parties, and I am devastated. Thanks Samsung. And again, dodgy dodgy dodgy.

The stylus/note function - did not work as fluently as shown on youtube videos. In the end I did not find it useful.

Unpleasant user experience - the phone lagged and would freeze a couple of times a day.

Finally, I would read or see on a video how there would be subtle variances of the same gen Note 3, depending on what carrier you were with and in which country. Some using different software, some with more features, some with less. It was like a zoo. You end up with 10 different variances of the Note 3. I was left wondering how lesser was my device compared to others.

The Note 3 was not all that bad, loved the multitasking function and I liked the refund policy on the Google playstore if you returned the app within 15 minutes...mind you given that it is the Google play store, the refund policy is probably out of necessity. Also liked that you could customise but really, that too gets boring. But all in all, the Samsung Note 3 was just too unreliable, too dodgy and too unstable. I guess if you are a long time Samsung/android user you would be used to it but coming from an iphone I definitely noticed the difference and it was material enough.

So I put my sim card back in my 4S after 3 weeks and sold the Note 3. And it was like a breath of fresh air, not having to worry why something would not work, whether I would sleep in, whether I would lose more photos and everything else. And in spite of all of this, I still don't hate Samsung, why would I, it's an electronics company.

Now just looking forward to the 6 Plus when the supply of it eventually starts to overtake its demand.

Data from their Note 4 official page.

2.7GHz Quad Core Process
1.9GHz Octa Core (1.9GHz Quad + 1.3GHz Quad Core) Process
* May differ by country and carrier

I mean... REALLY? You could get a quad core OR octacore? WHY?? And those who get quad core.. Should they be pissed or?....
