I had a pair of Polo shoes sent to me FedEx and I didn't even leave them sitting all day. They were $50, and shoes!

No way I would leave my brand new iPhone at the door, all day.
Besides the practical reasons, going and doing something that brings you joy is what life is all about. Take Justin the Urban Camper. Whether its concert tickets, Super Bowl tickets, or iPhone release day, a smile is a smile.

Because I can't promise to be home (although, if I had been able to order this year, I might of because I do not normally work Thursdays. Of course, normalcy in my workplace seems to have ended with May...) due to work. Ordered a Nano a while back, and all three days the fed ex truck past me on the way to work (I saw it/checked the tracking).

And I can't be sure I'd get to the fed ex depot in time before they close.

Not going to do any pre-signs.

And it would be an AT&T store for me, six hours of driving is the minimum round trip between me and the nearest iStore.

I wasn't aware Apple or AT&T would be requiring a signature, when mail the iPhone to a home. But even if they didn't and it was stolen, the shipper or the sender would replace it.

And yes that would be a pain in the rear, as you would have forms to fill out and then not have a phone right away. So I guess I can see why some would rather use the in store pickup option.

Once AT&T or Apple ships it, it's on UPS/FedEx

some people may not have had the money on tuesday when pre-orders began but they'll have it by the 24th.

But I chose to to pick-up in store because I hate ordering anything online, unless its an item I can't find anywhere within a driving distance, I prefer to hold the item in my hand as I pay for it.

plus, my local Apple Store is less than 5 minutes away from me.

I understood that, just didn't know UPS or FedEx was having us sign for them. As I stated earlier, I have not had to sign for any package in like 10 years and thought they stopped that practice.

But I prefer to order online for my stuff, because usually I can find it cheaper and not have to pay for shipping or state tax. Obviously this won't apply for the iPhone 4.

I'm picking it up at the AT&T store since I couldn't do it online with either company, and when the rep was done ringing me up he told me to come around 7am on Thursday, I didn't even bother to specify to deliver it to my house but I really didn't care and didn't want to put the guy through anymore work, especially with the long line.
