why release ios 5 without a new device too put it on right away?

I think most of this is all a curveball.

Steve Jobs must feel pretty embarrassed over the whole iPhone 4 leak, and didn't want another repeat of it.

I think iPhone 5 will be announced, and hope so too, since my contract expires next month so could replace my 3GS with it

You are close. My normal contract end is september but they already came to me for re-contract and equipment refresh with white iphone 4 because they are hunting for business right now. You could probably refresh equipment for a new phone now.

I'm sure the iPhone 5 will not be launched at WWDC. I wish it was...cuz my 3gs is getting long in the tooth. Also my contract expires this summer.

However, I am excited for iOS5. Please got I hope that iOS5 is a big departure from ios4.

I thought it was said that devs already had a pre-build of iOS 5...

Also, why is it so unbelievable that both iOS and the iPhone 5 could be previewed in June and then released in July? That way, Apple sticks to its summer trend, but only announces stuff a month before. September just seems kind of far and out of character...

Personally while whether it be improvements or a total revamp of iOS in 5 is interesting to me and I will enjoy using it when it comes out on my iP4, for me WWDC is all about Lion, a release date, features, etc. so that I can get a new iMac.
