Your on an apple forum??

The MBP is and always will be the best laptop on the market

Sure others might be a little faster or a little cheaper but you are paying for the amazing designer looks as well as the OS.

I bought an iMac and was considering an equivalent dell but it just wasn't as cool. You DO get what you pay for at apple and their tech support is second to none. You should never settle on such a big investment such as a computer.

You WILL LOVE OSX. Barley any problems at all and with that being said, you know it is only a matter of time before :apple: sends out FREE software updates to fix them. (CANT say that for windows??)

here's something to think about... in the not so distant future.. Sony Vaio running on a MAC OS hmmm... let's say leopard 10.5.8 :rolleyes:

several yrs ago.. every mac FANATIC wouldn't have imagined the wedding of Apple and Intel....

change is gooD! change is inevitable!:D

one more thing, check the apple stores in your area, what brand of LCD/Plasma arethey using with the apple TV? here in New England it's always. ALWAYS a Sony Bravia..
i never saw any samsung/panasonic/insignia/ etc ..

it's quite possible to allow SONY to make the " hardware" for the MBP :)

For $1989 I can get a 4GB 2.6ghz, 160GB, Nvida 8400, 15.4" Sony Vaio FZ.
For $1999 I get a 2GB 2.2ghz, Nvidia 8600, 15" Macbook Pro (Equivalent Vaio is $1250)

Besides the fact (big plus btw) that MBP runs OS X, why should I buy a MBP over a Sony Vaio?

Because after one year of ownership, my wife's MBP kicks her sister's Sony Vaio around the block. No comparison on retained speed, lack of clutter, and, as my sister-in-law puts it, "clarity in computing." She is getting an MB or MBP this summer and dumping her Sony to her kids. :D

Before my MBP purchase in Jan '07, I had previously owned 3 Sony Vaio Laptops. I really can't say I've ever had a bad experience with any of my Vaios. OS X is just so so much better of an OS it's not even funny. It's great to not have to run spyware/virus checks every day and OS X runs so smooth it's awesome.

I prefer the looks of my MBP of the Vaios I had, but there are some nice looking machines out there. The look and feel of my MBP is something I never got excited about from my Vaios, which is another reason I like it.

All in all, OS X really made me switch...I can't stand XP/Vista.

In fact, I just got rid of my Dell laptop at my office and picked up a refurbed Blackbook. It's hard to use any other OS when you're running Leopard. :)

I'm kinda in the same boat as the OP. I'm going to college in August and I want to get a MAc but the HP prices and stats are crazy. You can get a Hp
HP Pavilion dv9700t customizable Notebook PC
GT811AV

* – Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate (64-bit)
* – Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.50 GHz, 6 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
[...]

For less than 2700...
That crazy stat HP could be free and it still wouldn't run OS X. It's not just about specs and pricing, it's about what software you want to run.

I dunno if you guys are blinded by Apple fanism, but the quality of Sony products are just as good as Apple. Then again with the Sony you could run other OS like you know, but we won't get into that. I say save a little money get the 2.4ghz Sony with the upgraded card with everything else the same and put the money save towards something else. I would have done the same except at that time purchase for me the project was still new.

I'm on a Vaio right now that has a fan that sounds like a Chinook helicopter making a night raid on Fallujah. God forbid I do something like run Firefox and Word at the same time. Not to mention one final fact: Sony has probably the WORST customer care in the industry nowadays...and that includes Dell's infamous outsourced customer care personnel

Only non-Apple I'd recommend is an HP. But at that point you start comparing components the prices happen to be the same. Of course you'll always have Windows and that is the problem.

Once again, I'd argue that you don't really want a Mac.
What you want is to be cool and to keep up with the Joneses. I really don't care what you get (and how is this question any different from the other 50 million 'Convince me not to get a Dell' questions on this forum).
