Rumors come and go, no matter how good they sound. Just like the tear drop iPhone 5 from last year.

Rumors come and go, no matter how good they sound. Just like the tear drop iPhone 5 from last year.

There is a difference between unofficial casemakers over in China starting that rumour last year and WSJ confirming the iPad mini this year.

As I say I'm willing to bet that it'll arrive before Christmas 2012 if anyone wants to take me up on it.

iPad sales havent slowed down yet. Google/Android is ther only big name player producing small tablets and those things havent proven anything in the sales department. Even Microsoft is producing a big tablet, so why does Apple NEED to make a smaller tablet? There is no competition from a smaller tablet to force them to do that.

With cell phones getting bigger, people dont need smaller tablets. Its rather rediculous. A tablet is for stationary use, not for walking about in the mall and whipping out your tablet from your purse. Sure it sounds nice, but the bigger screened phones these days can handle that duty.

iPad is still the market, not tablets in general. Until someone proves they have somewhat of a contender, theres no need for Apple to build a 7 inch tablet.

But Wallstreet Journal does have street cred so I cant rule the idea completely out.

The iPhone is the fattest cash cow in Apples lineup of products.

It's what Apple Inc is focused on above all else. Therefore I wouldn't be surprised it these "leaks" aren't controlled by Apple and focused specifically on the iPhone at Apples direction.

Nothing like lots of hype and focus on their number one product. They've got some competition now and can use every advantage they can create.

I still doubt there will be an iPad Mini. The current iPad already has profit margins half of the iPhone; releasing an iPad Mini will cannibalize current iPad margins.

Wait until after iPhone goes on sale, then the iPad Mini leaks will -magically- appear.

If such a product is in the works at all. Every year since iPad was released, rumour was, an iPad Mini would be out in October. Still have my doubts, even this year.

A stretched iPhone 4 as an iPhone 5 is just as depressing. Too much time in court, not enough time innovating? Or maybe if it changes too much, it will look like Samsung… ooh, never thought of that.

There's always rumours of iMac updates… oh, that's right, that happens every year, too - and never materialised. In fact, Apple actually made a statement, one year, just to stop iMac sales stalling over Christmas.

Same stuff, different year. I can only hope all rumours are wrong.
