is it possible to go ONE day without somebody clicking into a thread they have no desire to read and bitching about the content as if their opinion mattered more?

This isn't inconsequential. Being able to search thru your old emails is important. And the feature is largely broken, the search function barely works, even if you are connected.

I use Mail Archiver all the time for this functionality.

I also use lettermelater.com to let me schedule emails because the iPhone mail program won't let me do that.

I have both features included in https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1021233/

As long as people post threads whining about inconsequential things, there's going to be people who read them and complain about the content. Neither of you will be happy about it, and an ironic justice is served. :)

To the OP: if you want your e-mails downloaded, you'll probably have to set up your account as a POP account instead of Exchange. And yes, you'll lose push.

The trick to is the phone just needs to set a limit at say 10 megs or so for emails.

Actually, the trick is that there is an entire backend to Blackberry's phones, that include proprietary servers and a network that stands in between the mail server and your blackberry phone. The Blackberry itself isn't doing any heaving lifting, there are dedicated RIM servers that handle most of the processing. They keep track of what's cached on the phone, and what needs to be retrieved. And even that isn't a perfect solution: if you happen to open an e-mail that isn't cached and you dont have internet access, you're still screwed.

Apple probably could build something similar to blackberry's network, but it would probably violate dozens of patents that RIM holds. Bottom line: if you want your phone to act like a Blackberry, you should get a Blackberry.

I'm not seeing what is broken. I can see all of my old mail (2 accounts - 1 Exchange and 1 gmail configured as Exchange) when in Airplane mode.

For those who can see there old emails what settings do you have on your phone?

Are you using exchange? If so with what service? Gmail / Mobile Me etc...

Maybe we can see if there is a setting we are missing.

My post was completely sarcastic... :)

The trick to is the phone just needs to set a limit at say 10 megs or so for emails. If space runs out then deleted the oldest email and so on. It works great and is a great system. Apple system is crap.

That's basically what my iPhone seems to be doing.

So you're saying your own idea is 'crap?' That's kind of harsh. You should be nicer to your own ideas.

No problems

Yeah, I just turned my airplane mode on, and I still have access to all emails that were already pushed to my phone. I can see all of them. Even the ones in my folders. So I'm not sure what's going on with the OP. I don't use exchange, but my wife does and hers is working. I use MobileMe, Yahoo, and my school's server email.
