I find Joe Public posters talk more than anyone else. I don't mean that in a bad way but how many times a day do you read thread after thread about the basics of an Apple product? I think those types of posts/threads far out-weigh the extremely intelligent, engaging Apple man who can name/do things that the average Joe public.

I consider myself to be someone much more of an Apple guy than a Joe Public but I think this forum allows for both types of people to be heard and they both do quite clearly.

I don't think his quote is in anyway out of environment especially when the topic is asking who the HECK would get the 3G now.

Good point. It explains many of the comments - "it's not much of an upgrade, it looks the same".

concur...
Everybody has their own needs...if the 3G fits them, great...if not there is the 3GS...some see the differences as drastic, some do not...when I got my MacBook Pro a friend (PC user) said, "what is the big deal, it looks exactly like your PowerBook"....
but I do agree that the 3GS, over the life of the contract is a better value. The extra hundred dollars for twice the storage capacity, twice the memory, better graphics processor, faster GPU, HSDPA enabled chipset, etc. and what will most likely be a better resale value for about $4.00 a month seems like a no-brainer to me value wise...but as has been stated many times some just don't care...

On the other hand we are on a discussion board. The very fact that we are on this board is because many of us are more discriminating consumers. We're not here to talk about the needs of the lowest common denominator (Joe Public) or to determine what that might be. So while your comments are true they are lacking the context of this environment.

True, but my point remains. Leaving the 3g on the market is not something aimed at us. Why would it be? We already have iPhones. It's a way of increasing their market share and making it more attractive and accessible to the people who don't crave gadgets, but crave fashion accessories, which is what the iPhone has become to some people.

I just figured we wouldn't be discussing why WE would still want to go out and buy a 3g when it's pretty obvious most of is wouldn't because we already have one or want to latest and greatest.

I got a 16gb white 3G today for $0 on a $45 per month contract including data, calls, text and what not. the 3G still has it's place

Yes I'm thinking og getting a GS and a 3G for my Wife, she Does'nt need all the latest and greatest bells and whistles but would use the phone.

So Do go 32gb GS for $299 & 8GB G for $99 = $399

or

16gb GS & 16GB GS Both for $199 = $398
