IMO, technology isn't everything. I got it for my 6 year old for crying out loud. I doubt she'll care if it has a retina display or the latest technology :p. And I don't own any iPad or iPhone so there.

I got mine because the headrests in my G5 are 9" across and when I asked Timmy what he could do, he said let see what I can come up with, so I felt obligated. :D

See just proving I can post an answer as stupid as your question!

I will get one when the specs are on par with the iPhone and iPad Retina. I won't support this dumbed down "market niche" reader product.

I just don't get the hype on this forum.

It's Apples weakest IOS product line at the moment. Runs a two year outdated A5 chip and no retina display which has been in ipod touch line for 2+ years now.

It's small "wow"..get a full size Ipad as you are missing out. Ipad mini will be forever a poor mans Ipad..as for people saying it's small ect..wow i'm enjoying my Iphone 5 which is much better. :D

1: Its cheap, which will mean that customers who are unable to stretch to the asking price of the 9.7 inch iPads will be more likely to be able to afford the iPad Mini and allow them to have the experience of using the iPad, App Store etc.

2: Some customers may find the 9.7 inch screen on the iPad too big, and would then perhaps look around in the other 7 inch tablet market. Now Apple have the chance to catch these customers.

If your happy with your full sized iPad then that's good for you, but not everyone wants or can afford the full sized iPad.

Comparing the iPad mini with the iPod Touch and giving the edge to the Touch because of its "retina" display is ... missing the whole point. They are nowhere in the same league, no matter how much retina the Touch display has or doesn't have. Get real.

People are going on as if it's "better" than the larger Ipad (I mean feature wise)..

It's not though. My Ipad does alot more than Ipad mini.

Before you disappear back under your bridge, or you finish your bottle of Bucky or Tesco Value Cider, could you please explain to me how I fold my iPad in half?

I'm also not clever enough to figure out which parts of my iPad I can disassemble to make it weigh half as much.

Can you help?

Or should I just buy the Mini, and have it in addition to my bigger iPad for when I dont or cant carry the full size iPad.

It must be awful for you that you are unable to afford an iPad Mini, you have my sympathies.

Whole lotta insults in this thread. I don't understand why people can't just debate the points, pro and con and keep the insults out.

He's not a bad person cause he doesn't see the use for the device you like? You're not a bad person for wanting a device he sees no use for.

Personally it's not a device I would be in the market for - but I sure am glad it's available for those people who want it.

Actually the insults started with the OP. I think he is, if not a bad person, at least a very rude one to start a thread with this type of language:

ipad 3+4 = too heavy, bulky

in the future, say 10 years tablets will be ultra thin, so its like lifting a bit of card almost, very easy to hold, and carry - iPad mini offers that now, but with a slightly smaller display - it will be able to do everything a big iPad can, but is handier to walk about with, lift up, hold to read - and also a very cool size for gaming, and also a more realistic book size

iphone 5, even though display is 4 inch now, is still annoying for web browsing, too small, iPad, too heavy to hold comfortable - iPad mini could be the perfect device, and may end up being apples best seller imv

Weight! its about the weight for me. Commuting on trains is hard enough never mind trying to fit an ipad between everyone on trains.

The mini will manage that much easier.

The mini will outsell the big ipad at least 2 to 1. Big ipad was flawed from the start, it's simply too big and expensive to REALLY hit the mainstream.

Also it's design is a generation ahead of the ipad 4, much thinner and lighter.

It's like when apple released the iPod mini / nano. They far outsold the old iPod classic.

wish apple will release iPad mini pro next year and it's intended for heavy user. like a6x proc, 1gb of ram. non retina is ok because 1024x768 at only 7.9" screen is pretty sharp.

This guys probably a troll, but if he's not, he's probably in a dorm room somewhere and thinks he's got the whole business world figured out.

If you read a little bit of what they talked about the intro, they are to be used for schools that have lower budgets and can't afford big iPads. Makes sense to me.

But for me the iPad fills up a void that the big iPad doesn't. And that is I'm a road warrior that uses a fixed Keynote presentation at cities around the country and packing is extremely important to me. If I can eliminate even 1 pound from my stuff that I carry into a presentation meeting, I'm all for it. And this certainly fits that bill. I can carry a smaller satchel for the whole she-bang. So it works for me on various levels.

If Steve Jobs was still alive and took a huge **** and put a $200 price tag on it would you still buy it?

OP, let us know where to send your patch.

There is no need for a 7" tablet.

Only people mad enough to pay for it. Profit that's all.

not true, i had an ipad 3 and absolutely hated the fact that it was heavy and i didnt have anywhere to store it. i honestly dont care about features, as long as its fast and has siri. Portability is bigger for me than features.

I've read heaps of posts how it's perfect for certain people.

It's cheap that's it..seriously people should consider a second hand Ipad over this one.

People like you will apparently never understand that price isn't the only consideration. Lots of people want the iPad experience in a smaller and lighter form, yet larger than a cellphone.

I was searching for Tablet for around year now. I like iPad and iOS, but I felt that 9" Tablet is too big to carry about with 13" MacBook Aluminum Unibody. I even tried Google Nexus 7, Amazon Kindle Fire HD, and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. I liked Google Nexus 7 the most since its response was fast comparing with Amazon Kindle Fire HD which have better color saturation screen.

However, I am not the big fan of Android. Even though, I suggest many of my friend to use it. I admit that Android 4.x have so many things that iOS is kinda lack. But I like simplicity UI on iOS. Setting is a piece of cake, people without any technical knowledge and set up pretty easy (I remember that when Window Mobile and Symbian Era, they need a little patience to make it stable, which is not a case with iOS and even Android)

iPad Mini is fit my need!! iOS device with 7" Screen. I like the form factor of Apple since they never release product with only "cheap" material. I owned iBook G4 with plastic shell, although plastic case cracked all around the machine but it still function and I used it as my torrent loading machine. Think about Window Laptop with the same period, it might not function or it was too slow to use. But my iBook with Tiger still rock!!

What I don't get is why some people get so bent out of shape over a product that others find value in. No one is obligated to buy a Mini. These forums were abuzz even before the Mini made its debut with the same posters saying the Mini would never happen and how stupid an idea it was. Never say never. If the product doesn't interest you, why bother to even post about it?
