OK people, fair enough, If I could change the title, I would call it "Why the Macbook is less preferable to me - and why I feel it's better to get a prior gen MBP".

To each their own. Enjoy your Macs people.

I will. Thanks!

I think you should have titled this "why the MB is not right for ME" instead of trying to convince everyone that the new MB sucks. Even the review you site states that this is the best MB to date.

Your review is really short sighted, but if that's how you make evaluations on significant purchases, then that's OK.... for YOU.

USB 2.0 is 480mbps. FireWire 400 is 400mbps. So why have a FireWire port? USB is more widely used, hence UNIVERSAL serial bus.

Your expertise amazes me... -_- , please go and see some REAL benchmarks, with BIG file transfers ( lets define big in 1 GB which is actually not that big ).

If you try to do some multiple track audio recording ( nothing fancy ) , let's say like 4 tracks... like 2xguitar + bass + voice. I welcome you to use your USB and the GOD DAMN HIGH LATENCY that you will get...

If you want some real charts , I think I can't find them for you if you can't google yourself.

PS: Firewire can be chained also , as a part of the protocol

PS2: Firewire does some data processing at the hardware level apart from the processor... so it doesn't interrupt the system as much ... etc. etc.

Jesus christ, do your homework.

Again, you're full of misinformation, just as you were in the other thread. My friend uses a MOTU 828MkII USB2.0, and gets 4 tracks in 2 out simultaneously at 5ms latency. I use USB2.0 2 in, 2 out at 24/96 at 5ms latency.

Jesus Christ, please do YOUR homework.

USB is not a FW replacement, but it's not useless, either. You're doing people on this forum a disservice by spreading your BS.

man read the charts, I have really tried it. It's a matter of processing power in USB2 , firewire interrupts the system A LOT less than USB2. Go to a really good audio recording forum ( like www.tweakheadz.com and check what they think there too ).

Guys have tried to do some stuff with 8 tracks , ( that's not a lot , I have seen pro's using 50 tracks or more ) . And they get a 22ms latency.

8 tracks it's like a couple of synths ( stereo ) , 2x guitar , bass , voice.. I'm 100% certain you can't handle that with USB2.

Alright, I have a MacBook, and it is amazing. The new one looks so sexy ( :) ) that I wanted one right when I saw it. Just because the MBP has a touchpad, more HD space, better display, etc. does not mean the MacBook "Sucks". Everything Apple will make and has made is made with perfection and is amazing.

Dude, please don't tell me I can't do what I've been doing for quite awhile. Go search H-C's recording forum. I've been recording on PC's for quite awhile, back to the Cakewalk Pro Audio 8 days.

I've even recording 24/48 on a Tascam US-122 (USB1.1, not 2.0) at 11ms latency with Reason piped in via Rewire running 4 modules. On a 1.3Ghz PIII laptop. DAW is Tracktion 2.1.

I guess me and several of my friends are just really lucky all these years, and you and I will have to agree to disagree, because our experiences are different.

I can see where the topic creator has some valid points, but he forgot one thing: Build quality. I know a lot of people with a dented macbook pro. Just purchasing the new macbook, I can tell you that it is very sturdy. It comes down to preference though I guess.

I know someone who ran over their aluminum powerbook. Plugged into an external it works perfectly. While I would love to have the "brick" build quality of the new generation on my MBP, it most definitely does not outweigh problems like the new touchpad, chiclet keyboard, and the only-glossy screen.

I really hated the MBP keyboard. The keys were so flimsy and easily damaged. It doesn't compare to the sturdy feeling of the chicklet keys or the keys of other laptops for that matter.

I'll tell you one thing. Keep these comments to yourself, because not everybody agrees with them. Some people like it, some people don't.

However big the difference is, it's not big as you people imagine it to be. It's not that big of a deal, it won't be that slow, sure its not significantly faster, but not significantly slower either.

WE WANT MACBOOKS BECAUSE THEY'RE 13.3". OBVIOUSLY. Lol i wouldn't take a 15 if it was FREE. well maybe if it was free :p, but I'd still buy my 13 inch. Wayyyy more portable :)

Ugh. Please. This is no better than a blanket statement that it sucks. Why is hyperbole so rampant on these boards?

oh please, who does photoshop on a 13.3" screen? Only the beginners do that, the amateurs use an external display or the mbp.

Me, when I'm not sitting in front of my PC and a 22" LCD.

I don't see how the new GPU can hurt any. I ran Photoshop for a few simple things on my 2.4 "Last Gen" Macbook and encountered zero hiccups. It ran like a champ, actually.

You noticed that too? Many people here are incapable of realizing their opinion isn't an absolute. What doesn't work for them may work for others.

Like I said, I've been recording on USB (even 1.1) for several years @ 24-bit, without issue. For crissakes, I even recorded a podcast for my company 2 tracks @ 24/48 on USB1.1 for 2 hours straight on a 400mhz G4 TiBook.

I've been doing HD video from a hard disk Sony for over a year. Quite happy.

Is this all not up to someone's standards? Fine!! Then don't buy a MB, and bitch about the lack of FW to Apple. But the topic has been done to death here, and it does no one any good.
