The MM isn't perfect but mine works just fine. I've had it for about a month, and I only clean it like once or twice, not because it couldn't scroll, but I like keeping my technology clean. So quit your whining and if you don't like it, return it or ask a refund. Don't go posting lies just because your angry. My friends have the wired version for their pcs have no problems. This other guy who uses the bluetooth version also had no problems. Also, my local college (im a high school sophomore) where I take classes have the old plastic iMacs, and they never cleaned the mice, only a few don't scroll anymore, it's just too dirty. they had those imacs for ... at least 2 years.

I can't deal with the fact that there are no "real" buttons on the top of the MM. It causes big problems in Team Fortress 2, so I use a Logitch MX518. One of the best mice on the market IMO.

Don't buy it if you are planing to use it

Really bad mouse especially at this price($69.99 @ futureshop)

We shouldn't be discussing whether peoples hands are clean when they use mouse. The idea that you have to cut through glue to open the mouse is the main problem!

The mouse is bound to get dirty if you use it often
fact: some dust is dead skin

The bottom ring wears out fast bad design, most mouse use sticker things at bottom and they don't have this problem

would be better to separate the side buttons, but i can cope with that

Great for people who use their mouse to takes pictures/show off

sticker things? no wonder your a macurmors newbie. why would you need to cut thru glue? all my friends mighty mice work fine. thats about 10-20 mice... and my hands arent clean but i use the scroll ball for about a month and it' still works. you can open the mouse, just pop open the battery latch, im sure no other mice allows you to completely open the mice and expose the inner workings. your logic is seriously flawed. dust isn't dead skin. dust are dust particles. every mouse gets dirty when used often. not just the MM. the bottom ring does wear, but it's not that bad. it's what it was designed for genius. it's not a show off item, it's an aesthetically great mouse to use, but NOT for gaming. it's for people that are better than wasting time with games.

The stickers are so the bottom does not wear out take the first image off Google:

clearly shows 2 white durable stickers and screws will be under the stickers

you Do have use glue to open:

"i'm sure no other mice allows you to completely open the mice and expose the inner workings" <-- wrong, on the contrary almost all mice allow u to expose inner works

every mouse does get dirty, that's why they are easy to open
the wheel on most mouse are attached with a spoke in the center of the wheel, so dust can drop in and it will still work. but this will only work with 1 axis

"dust is not dead skin"
but i guess i'm wasting my time if you deny the fact that most dust comes from dead skin(in home/office environments of course) lol

i meant no offense in the "show off" part only that it look nice but is not practical, the shape

i'm a macrumor newbie becuase most of u can't take a negative comment, but if u are planning to buy this mouse, keep the original receipt, you have been warned.

Just don't argue with Snowleopard. I think half of the things he says are jokes just to get people riled up. Dust isn't dead skin? Obviously he has to be kidding.

lol he doesn't even know the definition of dust

but i'm glad these are some normal people here

I love my MM, but my side buttons went from hard to push to waaay too sensitive, so much so I can't use them anymore. If I rest my hand just right on it they freak out and click click click away. The dirty ball isn't that big of a deal, just rub it around the mouse pad and it'll clean right up. Not worth returning to Apple over.

I find Apple's mouse too heavy. Even with one battery it is too heavy. Ball gets stuck very fast and you can move page down, but not up. I don't understand why Apple didn't used some kinda similar technology to laptop trackpad. Also mouse is very very very slow compared with other mouses (corded ones). You have to set it on maximum speed and it is still very slow. The only good thing I can say about MM is that it wakes up computer from sleep instantly.

I'm dreaming of a Multi-touch mousepad, or should I just say pad. Where you scroll and resize windows with just your fingers. And a tap of a finger brings up the numeric keypad to quickly input excel entries.

Best of all, it works on wireless. Bring the pad around the house and scroll through your music in coverflow. Its not impossible but i think the prices would be alarming high now.

The mice is becoming obsolete.

I dislike the side buttons, whenever I grip the mouse to move it around all of my windows minimize. ARgh!!

Instead of using water, use rubbing alcohol when cleaning it upside down. That cleans off dirt and oil much better, and is what I do to my MM to keep the ball clean and working.

I hate the mighty mouse. I have a wireless one that I purchased to use with my MB but it always got dirt or what-not under the little ball and had to keep on cleaning it.

Haven't used it since.

I bought a Mighty Mouse as soon as they came out and used it for about 3 days. Absolute garbage. One of the worst-designed Apple products ever. It doesn't even have a real right click...and as noted the scroller sucks. I don't know what it is with Apple and Mice but they have a really bad track record...although the old ADB AppleDesign mouse wasn't too bad if you were ok with 1 button.

You use glue to open a mouse? No wonder you have a screwed up MM... I just pop open the battery latch.

"i'm sure no other mice allows you to completely open the mice and expose the inner workings" <-- wrong, on the contrary almost all mice allow u to expose inner works

So if I bought a logitech mouse or an ms one, it will have a latch that opens and lets me see the pcb board, all the inner mechanics?? complete bs... you could pry open the plastic casing i suppose..

wikipedia and dictionary app both say dust "fine, dry powder consisting of tiny particles of earth or waste matter lying on the ground or on surfaces or carried in the air" dust does include dead skin, but not only that. I should have made that clear.

"..that it look nice but is not practical, the shape ..." I use it fine. Other people love it, and have no problems. My friends don't. It's practical in terms of work, not pointless gaming. that's why it doesn't work well in gaming. gaming is a waste of time imo. and the practicability is your opinion, not a fact. other people have used it fine in practical situations. if you don't like it, don't preach about it and tell lies, just return it and be in peace.

Mice - Apple's doesn't work too well

I have had some major problems with the bluetooth MM. I have managed to kill 3 of them in about 2 years. At first, I just replaced my mouse with an old USB MS mouse I had sitting around. It was several years old with I got it and it must be close to 5 or 6 now. Works well. I have since when out and purchased 2 super cheap logitech USB mice. They can be hard to find, but they work flawlessly for all apps, including World of Warcraft. Gotta have a right mouse button in WoW. I am tired of spending $50 on wireless mice that die in a few short months.

I love the Apple hardware/software except for their mice. Maybe MS should get out of the software business and continue to make mice. :D

Don't bother

I am compelled to reply to this thread so someone does not make the same mistake as me.

Apple's Mighty Mouse is the biggest piece of garbage to have ever come out of Mac land. Yes, it comes in a nice wrapper in a pretty little box and it'll look great and if your Mac sits on your desk playing ITunes all day long it's perfect but if you actually want to do some work - if you use any of the Adobe Packages or Microsoft Word or Windows XP under Parallels then I got two words for you: DON'T BOTHER. As for cleaning the MM, duh, I'm buying a mouse to make the operation of my computer easier, not to spend time cleaning it. What's next... we're gonna see detergents in the Apple store next to Stevie's latest useless invention. Why doesn't he just form a cleaning company?

I've used a few mouses on the Mac and as difficult it might be for the fanboys to comprehend, the Microsoft mouse isn't that bad. The best one for everyday use the Logitech VX Nano because it's customisable, has actual buttons, has a dongle that's not obtrusive and it doesn't have the momentary lag alllllll bluetooth mice suffer from. And it looks great.

Stay away from MM, Steve Jobs should concentrate on more things that work and are useful like the Macs rather than hyberbole like the Iphone, MBA, and the biggest piece of trash the Mighty Mouse.

The damn scroll ball works half the time.

I've already lost two of them... In the beginning (I mean, after the troubles began) it was more or less half the time, but eventually they went completely dead.

My mighty mouse lasted about 15 minutes before I swapped it out for a Logitech MX revolution. Never looked back, sorry apple you blew it with this one.
