um is there really that much of a difference between 7200 and 5400 would the average user give a ****?

are u kidding me?? firstly, yes, it difference and secondly, in 2012 SSD is must as default config - and what apple does - instead upgrading 7200 to SSD, it downgrades to 5400 - this is epic fail

I'm talking about the new one

All 2012 Mini models can support 16 GBs of RAM

Apple said:
Mac mini comes with 4GB of fast 1600MHz DDR3 memory. And thanks to a removable bottom panel, it’s easy to add more. Just give it a twist, and you’re in. Pop your new memory into the SO-DIMM slot, and you’re out. Or you can configure your Mac mini with up to 16GB of memory from the start at the Apple Online Store.

Everything you say is absolutely true, BUT...

Think how marvelous it is for it to be THINNER.

Thinner is GOD. Too bad about the actual users... THINNER!

So important for a non-portable desktop machine seen from the front.

But when your working on the mac, you DON'T SEE the thinness, just the screen. Your argument is flawed, unless you plan on carrying your imac around like its a laptop.

have you ever heard about "irony" and "sarcasm"? :D

5400 rpm HDD in new 2012 top line computer? apple, are you serious?? 21,5 model is dead before it reaches the store, who the hell would buy that machine???

Stupid statement - Apple sells stacks more 21.5's than 27s. The people that buy them are home users - a perfect computer for them - if they want more power they can spec it up online - I don't know of many other companies that make it that easy.

Thank you.. although I'd have to pay for the Fusion cr4pp to get 7200 rpm for my root folders

I have the 2011 "server" model that comes with 2 x 750 GB 7200 RPM WD Scorpio black HDDs. I swapped the one for a 256 GB SSD and have my own "fusion" drive.

u cant spec up hdd on entry imac... but again, you fanboys simply cant see, that new 2012 imac got bottleneck 5400 rpm HDD? there is no reason to do so, no just apples greed

Sorry my mistake. THEN GO FOR THE UP! Still don't like the specs? UPGRADE IT. Can you go to the HP website and spec up its all in ones? Didn't think so.

You expected a Bluray drive? Was never going to happen. The i5 thing is surprising, but even so they are still powerful, with a good turbo boost.

The iMac is literally updated version of the last one. They obviously see the 21inch as a consumer model and so have made that less configurable. For more than 95% of their iMac consumer base these machines are more than ok.

Core i5s are fine. I don't think anyone really benefits off having byper-threading.

You clearly lost the point, I do not say that new iMac is crap, no, 27inchers are quiete fine, but machine that costs 1350 euros can get ONLY 5400 rpm hDD - desktop machine in 2012 - this is nosense and evident downgrade in comparison to 2011 iMacs

OP: Why on earth did you expect a BD drive?

No signs EVER, EVER pointed to that.

"I was expecting retina touchscreen, but WTF they didnt deliver, NO BUY!"

Both the 21.5" and the 27" models have i7 options, as before

21.5" options:

2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz) with 6MB L3 cache

Configurable to 3.1GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz).

The 3.1 GHz in the 21.5" is the i7 3770s. It supports hyperthreading

Do you need to sit down in the naughty corner for a bit to calm down and start this discussion again? This looks like the exact same line-up as before, with Ivy Bridge CPUs that are slightly faster. I am not following your posts, because you're raving like an uninformed lunatic that has not even bothered to actually look at the specifications.

Ironically, most of the whinging is due to Apple giving choice.
If they didn't have i5 as an option and made everything i7 but bumped up the price by the difference, we wouldn't as many whiners.

The 27" is an amazing machine.
It's such an amazing upgrade. One of the best CPU's available, 32GB ram max (and easily user upgradeable), option for the GTX 680MX (if sources are right, this beast benches 3,888 vs 1,242 650M in rMBP). Note that high end desktop gpu bench 4-5k. It's pretty much a high end desktop GPU.

I really don't see the problem other than cost. Too much crying from people screaming want who can't afford. First world problems...choose a different computer then. No one is forcing anyone to do anything.

Why do they even make 5400 rpm 3.5" drives? Unless they've switched to 2.5" drives and there aren't 7200 rpm 1TB drives yet.

Cheers,

Indeed. Posts like these are too sensible for this forum at a time of a new release when it becomes a kindergarten. The GTX 680MX looks to be very strong, even just by looking at Nvidia's specifications page. It is an under-clocked GTX 680. The benchmark you're referring to is actually for the 680M, which is slower than the 680MX. There are no benchmarks for the 680MX - it only appeared on Nvidia's product page this morning.

isnt 7200rpm much noisier than 5200?

also when I had my 13"mpb when it came out (early 11') it came with 5200rpm and I planed to upgrade to a SSD but when I tried it was ****in fast and didn't bother getting the SSD

so the 5200 in the new iMac may aswell be damn fast plus quite.

It depends, but, in general, 7200 RPM are noisier than 5400 RPM hard drives. There are no 5200 RPM hard drives by the way :)

so form won over specs...

this is some fanboy rubish... 7200 rpm is much slover than any SSd and it is bottleneck for my 2011 imac... so please, dont tell me about being superfast with 5400 hdd

if you are paying US prices, i understand you see no problem.. but having EU prices, reasonable iMac is too expensive, with all respect to the technology used... and entry one is simply downgrade to the previous generation
