I think the 17 air will be great! its like a small pro, minus camera essentially.. will have similar battery. and larger screen, what's not to like?
I think that you are correct, and that the new Air will be a very good phone that will sell well. I will not buy one because I need maximum camera, but it sure seems like it will be a nice phone.

Well im not 100% sure as yet.. However I have the iphione 15 which is a **** model. 2nd worst iphone release except the iphone c.

I was going to dump the 15 for the 16 Pro but felt It might be worth waiting 1 more year and then change.
My upgrade cycles are spread out but of late im having to update.
iphone 3G
iphone 4
iphone 5s
iphone 6s
iphone 11
iphone 15. So hopefully the 17 is worth it.

But I don't understand the relationship between the chip and AI.
When I ask questions on Chat GPT it does not care about the chip in my phone, or my Mac.
Why would it make a difference with a new iPhone?
My understanding is that questions for ChatGPT go to servers.
Apple tries to process as much as possible on the iPhone and only send to a server under certain circumstances.

Yes I think so - I think the camera for 90% will be good enough IMHO.
I agree. I think the Air will be perfect for _many_ users, even without knowing the full details yet. 120hz means UX will not suffer for going non-Pro this year. And, the move to aluminum on the Pro means you're not even missing out on any arguable materials benefits of the Pro. In fact, the Air is rumored to possibly use Ti in its chassis.

Personally I WFH, so any obsession about max battery life is misplaced -- opportunities abound to top up. The weight of the PM has been a burden I am so ready to get past. In past years, the Plus would've been attractive, but the lack of 120hz kept me away.

Not worried about the single-camera system at all. It will do great at my only camera needs -- amateur-level capture of memories/adventures with dogs, friends, and family. I am not an Instagram influencer nor a wannabe photog.

The iPhone 17 looks like a pretty small upgrade to me, the iPhone air looks to me like a bad deal because of the camera and battery... So why the 17 ??? Many of us have the iPhone 14 Pro, if you don't really care about AI (and I don't understand why you would), then I don't feel it's worth to upgrade. There is no revolution here...
Because it’s a no brainer to upgrade with trade in deals.

This exact same conversation was taking place last year with the 16 lineup. I upgraded last year from a 13 Pro to a 16 Pro because I felt like it was time, because I wanted the camera updates that had accumulated over the years, and because the battery was still fine but getting long in the tooth.

I don’t think it was me last year btw lol

Anyways today is the day, we are going to see what’s new and see if it’s really worth it.

because 14 pro is the heaviest of them all, the 17 is literally completely different... (120/larger) - just because YOUR not excited doesnt mean others are NOT excited.

Ok so first of all I just wanna say that I written the message that you replied to before the iPhone 17 pro release, the iPhone 17 is a great phone after all... But not sure about the 17 pro... and the air.

Well it's the only way most can enjoy of the good performances of the computer... So yeah what are you going to do with all this power on your phone? 12gb of ram is cool but can you run two apps at the same time?
LOL, no it is not the only way. And yeah two apps, try more. Multiple apps on an iPhone, absolutely, when I drive I often run maps on my cars screen while playing Pandora, meanwhile ios is keeping my background apps updated (photos, mail, messages) Siri is on standby, when I get a text I often use her to reply to an incoming message. And this is not the only example, the iPhone make a fine handheld computer.
