I use my phones as a tool to make a decent chunk of money on the side through flips/price mistakes/etc. during those every second counts, so if the new iPhone is even half a second faster it increases my chances of getting my order in and it’ll pay for itself. That’s my yearly upgrade excuse lol that and I burn through my battery at least 1.5-2 times a day. So a fresh battery every year is a must

How dare you? OP strongly advises against those practices, they do not make sense, you should keep your phone for at least 5 or 6 years, there are no or very minor updates in-between ...

Oh shoot! I never considered this! You know what? I'll atone by switching back to my original PalmPilot... it's basically the same as my current iPhone. And yes, I still have it!

Thanks OP!

only the truly dedicated would continue to upgrade every year, which I think personally is a waste simply because since Tim took over innovation is rare, and instead what we have is a drip feed of incremental improvements, and features that are only available on certain models through iOS (but which could be made available to older models, but then bang goes the planned obsolescence model etc.).

I went from a 12 Pro to a 15 Pro Max, and I'm going to skip this year and see what happens next year. What I am certain of however is that I won't be interested in a fold device, I have an iPad for that stuff thanks.

I was planning on keeping my 15 pro but after dropping it and damaging it this week am considering a base 17 now it looks like it’s getting promotion.

Also like how the base models are usually lighter and slightly thinner than the pros. Having said that I might keep the 15 as it’s still works but that’s the reason I may upgrade. There doesn’t have to be a revolutionary new design/features as reasons for people to get a new phone.

Why will the 18 be more useful?
So AI will get better in 2026… probably late 2026 it will be fine… maybe beta in early middle 2026…

There might be a new foldable iPhone too, meaning you could do more on the iPhone !! So more useful… and for sure other good improvement…

Now they improve a bit the things on the iPhone… meaning it’s not really more useful than the 16 pro in 90% of cases…

We reached peak phone quite a few years ago. Except for the rare paradigm shift, the only improvements to phones anymore, regardless of manufacturer, will be incremental.

Which is fine with me; I'm excited for the 17 Pro Max and will enjoy the upgrades it brings over my 16 Pro Max (also: upgrade plans make annual upgrades a pretty easy decision)
