3G service here in Denver, Colorado is also bad with constant dropped calls and my iPhone 3G showing no signal when there is an excellent Edge signal available but the iPhone refuses to give up on 3G.

For those of us who didn't previously own the original iPhone the new iPhone 3G is still a great Edge phone and for me I am just waiting until Apple and/or AT&T step up and admit their issues.

Also for the record my previous 3G phone, the AT&T Tilt, did NOT have the issues with dropped calls/no signal that the iPhone 3G has. So don't lay all the blame on AT&T.

What does the iPhone do when you turn 3G off but turn WiFi on? Does it receive all your emails (even push) over Wifi rather then using the EDGE network?

If so, this might work great for me at home and I can stop getting upset about the fact that 3G doesn't work at my house!

That probably still won't change the buzzing sound that all the speakers make in my house with the darn thing in EDGE mode... Ugh.

Yes it does but then you effectively have a 2G phone so why pay the extra $10 a month?

As for the OP I think u made a good call. If something isn't working as it should...return it rather than live with it/hope it gets fixed later on

Here is San Antonio, Texas...ATTs home office....We get 3G service across all of Bexar county...I have never seen it drop below 5 bars...anywhere in the city. This area is probably the best ATT 3G network. If it is so good here...it will get better everywhere else...It will just take time.

I feel for all you people with 3G problems...but that is not the case in every city.

How old is you house? Why are you getting Buzzing sounds in your speakers? you might just have a defective phone. Exchange it out.

I get the same thing. I get a buzzing sound in my clock radio, in my center channel in my home theater, in my woofer attached to the mac. Very annoying, but I've heard of similar problems on other gsm phones.

It has nothing to do with the age of the house. The 3G iPhone sends very loud (and occasionally painful if it's right next to your headphones) signals. I'm not sure if it's caused by 3G or wifi, but it's there.

The Howard Stern show won't even allow guests to enter the studio with iphones anymore.

AT&T's coverage just stinks. It's completely deplorable. Rarely do I have more than two bars in DC. In bldgs and my house, it's usually one and always edge.

It's embarrassing to have calls repeatedly drop, to not be able to hear the other party or them hear you, etc.

Verizon's old "can you hear me now" may be cliche, but it's 100% true. I've used Verizon wireless since they were Bell Atlantic Mobile in 84 and their service coverage is simply unbeatable.
Hmm ... here in south Jersey the exact opposite is true. Verizon didn't usually drop my calls, the calls just didn't go through. I had countless instances of Verizon giving me a "missed call" message when the phone never rang. So far on AT&T, no such troubles.

But apparently it's OK to make blanket statements like "AT&T stinks" and "everybody knows Verizon has the best network" when that isn't always the case.
